Robert Dornhelm
Robert Dornhelm (born 17 December 1947 in Temesvár, Romania) is an Austrian film and television director. Biography Dornhelm is of Jewish descent. He has worked on numerous television programmes and has also released such movies as ''Echo Park (1986 film), Echo Park'', ''The Venice Project'', ''Der Unfisch'', and ''A Further Gesture''. In 1998 in film, 1998 ''Der Unfisch'' won the Citizen's Choice Award at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival. He directed the 1977 documentary film ''The Children of Theatre Street'', which was nominated for an Academy Award. Dornhelm directed the television miniseries ''Anne Frank: The Whole Story'' (2001), for which he was nominated for an Primetime Emmy Award, Emmy Award. He also directed the new TV adaptation ''Spartacus (2004 film), Spartacus'' (2004) and the 2011 film ''The Amanda Knox Story''. ''The Ten Commandments'' is a 2006 miniseries that dramatizes the biblical story of Moses. It ran on the ABC TV network. The series was filmed in Egypt, Mount Sinai, and the Sinai Peninsula. Plot Moses's mother, Jochebed, saves her baby from the edict of the Pharaoh that all newborn male Hebrew children must die by placing him in a basket on the Nile River. Howard Melvin Fast (November 11, 1914 – March 12, 2003) was an American novelist and television writer. Fast also wrote under the pen names E.V. Cunningham and Walter Ericson. Biography Early life Fast was born in New York City. His mother, Ida (née Miller), was a British Jewish immigrant, and his father, Barney Fast, was a Ukrainian Jewish immigrant who shortened his name from Fastovsky upon arrival in America. When his mother died in 1923 and his father became unemployed, Howard's youngest brother, Julius, went to live with relatives, while he and his older brother, Jerome, sold newspapers. Howard credited his early voracious reading to a part-time job in the New York Public Library. Fast began writing at an early age. ''Spartacus'' is a 2004 North American miniseries directed by Robert Dornhelm and produced by Ted Kurdyla from a teleplay by Robert Schenkkan. It aired over two nights on the USA Network, and stars Goran Visnjic, Alan Bates (in his final television appearance), Angus Macfadyen, Rhona Mitra, Ian McNeice, Ross Kemp and Ben Cross. It is based on the 1951 novel of the same name by Howard Fast.
