Richard Groner
Richard Groner (3 October 1853 – 15 June 1931, idem) was an Austrian local historian and journalist. Life Born in Vienna, the son of a civil servant, Groner entered the service of the later Imperial Royal Austrian State Railways in 1871, but found time for journalistic activities at the ''Familienjournal'' (from 1875) and ''Das interessante Blatt'' (from 1881). Together with Ludwig Eisenberg he founded the biographical yearbook ''Das geistige Wien'', which was published annually from 1889 onwards. He became famous through his Vienna encyclopaedia ''Wien wie es war'', which appeared in its first edition in 1919 and only dealt with the time up to the Congress of Vienna. The third, extended edition was edited after Groner's death by Otto Erich Deutsch (1934); the sixth edition was published in 1966. Ludwig Julius Eisenberg (5 March 1858 in Berlin, Kingdom of Prussia – 25 January 1910 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary) was an Austrian writer and encyclopedist. Congress Of Vienna
The Congress of Vienna (, ) of 1814–1815 was a series of international diplomatic meetings to discuss and agree upon a possible new layout of the European political and constitutional order after the downfall of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Participants were representatives of all European powers and other stakeholders, chaired by Austrian statesman Klemens von Metternich, and held in Vienna from September 1814 to June 1815. The objective of the Congress was to provide a long-term peace plan for Europe by settling critical issues arising from the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars without the use of (military) violence. The goal was not simply to restore old boundaries, but to resize the main powers so they could balance each other and remain at peace, being at the same time shepherds for the smaller powers. Otto Erich Deutsch (5 September 1883 – 23 November 1967) was an Austrian musicologist. He is known for compiling the first comprehensive catalogue of Franz Schubert's compositions, first published in 1951 in English, with a revised edition published in 1978 in German. Felix Czeike
Felix Czeike (21 August 1926 – 23 April 2006) was an Austrian historian and popular educator. He was an author and partly also editor of numerous publications on the history of Vienna and was the director of the . His main work is the six-volume ''Historische Lexikon Wien''. Life Czeike, born in Favoriten (10th district of Vienna), studied history, geography, German studies and art history at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in philosophy in 1950. From 1954 he worked in the Vienna City and State Archives, and in 1976 took over their management, which he held until his retirement in 1989. In 1977 he founded the Vienna branch of the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft for urban history research, which was integrated into the City and State archives, and which he headed until his death. Auguste Groner
Auguste Groner (née Kopallik; 16 April 1850 − 7 March 1929), was an Austrian writer internationally notable for detective fiction. She also published under the pseudonyms Olaf Björnson, A. of the Paura, Renorga, and Metis. Life Auguste Groner was born in Vienna in 1850, the daughter of an accountant. One of her brothers was the painter Franz Kopallik, and another was the theologian Josef Kopallik. She was educated in Vienna, both at the painting school at the Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna and at the Vienna woman's teacher training institute. From 1876 to 1905 she worked as a primary school teacher in Vienna. In 1879 she married Richard Groner, a journalist and lexicographer.
