Richard D. Young (born December 2, 1942) is a former Democratic Party (United States), Democratic member of the Indiana Senate who represented the 47th senate district from 1988 to 2014. Education Young has an AB in Behavioral Sciences from Vincennes University. Early career Before his tenure in the Indiana Senate, Young was Crawford County, Indiana, Crawford County County Auditor, Auditor. He was also Secretary of the Crawford County Democrat Central Committee from 1986 to 1988. Senate Young represented the 47th District after being appointment to succeed newly elected lieutenant governor Frank O'Bannon in 1988. His district included parts of Crawford, Dubois, Harrison, Perry, Spencer, Warrick and Washington Counties. He has won election to the Senate in 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, and 2010, but lost in the general election to Republican Party (United States), Republican Erin Houchin 21,000 to 15,000 votes in 2014. Frank O'Bannon
Frank Lewis O'Bannon (January 30, 1930 – September 13, 2003) was an American politician who served as the 47th governor of Indiana from 1997 until his death in 2003. As of October 2022, he remains the most recent United States Governor to have died in office. O'Bannon was a native of Corydon, Indiana. He graduated from Corydon High School (now Corydon Central High School) in 1948 and then Indiana University, where he met his wife Judy. In Corydon, he served as a practicing attorney and a newspaper publisher for ''The Corydon Democrat'' before his entrance into the political arena. A Democrat, O'Bannon was first elected to the Indiana Senate in 1969. He eventually became one of the body's most prominent members. O'Bannon ran for Governor of Indiana in 1988; however, instead of facing a hotly competitive primary, O'Bannon dropped out of the race and became the running mate of Evan Bayh.
