Regina Weber
Regina Weber (born 12 April 1963) is a German former individual Rhythmic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnast. She is the 1984 Summer Olympics, 1984 Olympic All-around bronze medalist. Personal life She married the Senegalese former footballer Souleyman Sané. They have 3 sons: Kim Sané, Leroy Sané and Sidi Sané. Career Weber competed in her first Worlds at the 1981 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, 1981 World Championships finishing in 10th place in the all-around. She got her highest placement finishing 8th in all-around at the 1983 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, 1983 World Championships. When rhythmic gymnastics was officially added as an Olympic Sport in 1984, athletes from USSR and Bulgaria were considered as favorites, but the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott, Eastern led Boycott of the 1984 Summer Olympics meant the top competitors were absent. Winsen An Der Luhe
Winsen (Luhe) () is the capital of the district of Harburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated on the small river Luhe, near its confluence with the Elbe, approx. 25 km southeast of Hamburg, and 20 km northwest of Lüneburg. History Winsen was first mentioned in a document of the Diocese of Verden in 1158. Winsen Castle, first mentioned in 1315, was built at a crossing over the Luhe to protect the harbor. At the beginning of the 15th century, the Church of Saint Mary was built. In 1593, Dorothea of Denmark, widow of William the Younger, moved into Winsen Castle and lived there until her death in 1617. Gymnastics At The 1984 Summer Olympics
At the 1984 Summer Olympics, two different gymnastics disciplines were contested. In addition to the fourteen artistic gymnastics events contested, for the first time at the Olympics, a rhythmic gymnastics event was contested–the women's individual all-around. All of the gymnastics events were held at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles from July 29 through August 11. Several teams who had qualified to compete were absent as a result of the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott, including the Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, and North Korea. This was the first time in Olympic competition that eight gymnasts were allowed to move onto an apparatus final, instead of the previous six.
