Rattan Lal
Rattan Lal (born 5 September 1944) is a Soil science, soil scientist. His work focuses on regenerative agriculture through which soil can help resolve global issues such as Effects of climate change on agriculture, climate change, food security and water quality. He was awarded the 2019 Japan Prize 'for the sustainable soil management for global food security and mitigation of climate change.' On June 11, 2020, Professor Lal was named the recipient of the prestigious World Food Prize-2020. His research diverged from the conventional 1970s soil fertility strategy of heavy reliance on commercial fertilizers. His research led a better understanding of how no-till farming, cover crops, crop residues, mulching, and agroforestry can restore degraded soils, increasing Soil organic matter, organic matter by sequestering atmospheric carbon in the soil, and help combat rising carbon dioxide levels in the air. West Punjab ( pnb, ; ur, ) was a province in the Dominion of Pakistan from 1947 to 1955. The province covered an area of 159,344 km2 (61523 sq mi), including much of the current Punjab (Pakistan), Punjab province and the Islamabad Capital Territory, but excluding the former State of Bahawalpur, Princely state of Bahawalpur. Punjab Agricultural University
The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is a public funded agricultural university located in Ludhiana district of Punjab. It is a state agricultural university in India. It was established in 1962 and is the nation's third-oldest agricultural university, after Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar and Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneshwar. Japan Prize
is awarded to people from all parts of the world whose "original and outstanding achievements in science and technology are recognized as having advanced the frontiers of knowledge and served the cause of peace and prosperity for mankind." The Borlaug Award is an award recognition conferred by a fertilizer company, Coromandel International, for outstanding Indian scientists for their research and contributions in the field of agriculture and environment.
