Ramsau Bei Berchtesgaden
Ramsau is a German municipality in the Bavarian Alps with a population of around 1,800. It is a district located in the Berchtesgadener Land in Bavaria, close to the border with Austria, 35 km south of Salzburg and 150 km south-east of Munich. It is situated north of the Berchtesgaden National Park. Notable sights of Ramsau include the third highest mountain in Germany called the Watzmann, Lake Hintersee and the village's church. Hans Brandner (born 19 February 1949 in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria) is a German former luger who competed for West Germany from the early 1970s to the early 1980s. Competing in three Winter Olympics, He won the silver medal in the men's doubles event at Innsbruck in 1976. Brandner also won two medals at the men's doubles event at the FIL World Luge Championships with a gold in 1979 and a bronze in 1977. He also won four medals in the men's doubles event at the FIL European Luge Championships with one gold (1977), one silver (1972), and two bronzes (1973, 1980). Anton "Toni" Palzer (born 11 March 1993) is a German ski mountaineer and cyclist. He is a member of the DAV section Berchtesgadener Land and of the German national selection. Since April 2021, Palzer has joined in road bicycle racing. Career Born in Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden, Palzer attended the ''CJD Christophorusschule Berchtesgaden'' until 2009. Competing in the cadets' class at the 2010 World Championship of Ski Mountaineering in Andorra, Palzer won the individual as well as the vertical race event. Manuel Machata
Manuel Machata (born 18 April 1984) is a German former bobsledder who competed from 2005 to 2015. Manuel Machata grew up in Ramsau near Berchtesgaden, Germany. He attended the CJD Christophorus high school in Berchtesgaden. After completing high school he joined the sports group of the German army (Bundeswehr). He became German Junior Champion in both two and four-man and Junior World Champion in four-man bobsled in 2006. Machata started regularly at the European Cup since November 2006 where he won the 2006 and 2007 cups at Königssee and 2007 the four-man in Igls. He was behind Thomas Florschütz in both two-man and four-man at Königssee 2007 and third in the 2008 two-man championships in Altenberg. Hartmut Graßl
Hartmut Graßl (born 18 March 1940) is a German climate scientist and a former director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology. Born in Salzberg, near Berchtesgaden, Graßl studied physics and meteorology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and earned his PhD in Munich in 1970. In 1981 he became professor of theoretical meteorology at the University of Kiel, and in 1984 he became director of the Institute of Physics at the GKSS Research Centre. In 1988 he became professor at the University of Hamburg and director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology. He retired in 2005. Hermann Buhl
Hermann Buhl (21 September 1924 – 27 June 1957) was an Austrian mountaineer. He was innovative in applying Alpine style to Himalayan climbing. His accomplishments include the first ascents of Nanga Parbat in 1953 and Broad Peak in 1957. Early life Buhl was born in Innsbruck, the youngest of four children. After the death of his mother, he spent years in an orphanage. Before Scouting was banned in Austria, Hermann Buhl was a Cub Scout in Innsbruck. In the 1930s, as a sensitive (and not very healthy) teenager, he began to climb the Austrian Alps. In 1939, he joined the Innsbruck chapter of the Deutscher Alpenverein (the German Alpine association) and soon mastered climbs up to category 6.
