Raceview is a suburb of Ipswich in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. In the , Raceview had a population of 9,721 people. Geography The Cunningham Highway passes through the south-eastern corner of Raceview, entering from Blackstone and exiting to Flinders View. History In 1828 during the convict era, there was a farm called Plough Station. The origin of the suburb name is from an early racecourse at the end of Grange Road, which later relocated to Bundamba. Raceview Provisional School opened on 20 August 1901. On 1 January 1909, it became Raceview State School. During World War II, American military personnel who died in or near Australia were buried in a extension of Ipswich General Cemetery as a temporary arrangement until their bodies could be returned to the United States after the war. Moreton Bay Penal Settlement
The Moreton Bay Penal Settlement operated from 1825 to 1842. It became the city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. History The Moreton Bay Penal Settlement was established on the Redcliffe Peninsula on Moreton Bay in 1824, under the instructions of John Oxley that a suitable location would be "easy of access, difficult to escape from, and hard to attack; furthermore, it should be near fresh water and contain three hundred acres for cultivation". Only one year after settlement, the inadequacy of Redcliffe's water supply became apparent and in May 1825 the commandant Lieutenant Henry Miller decided to relocate the settlement to the current Brisbane CBD. The Ipswich General Cemetery is a historic cemetery in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. It is the second oldest cemetery in Queensland. It is owned by Ipswich City Council, but the council have outsourced the day-to-day operations to a private contractor Norwood Park Limited, trading as Ipswich Cemeteries. Geography The cemetery is bounded by Warwick Road, Cooney Street, Parrott Street, Briggs Road and Cemetery Road. It is a denominational cemetery with sections allocated to Roman Catholic Church, Church of England, Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church, Congregational Church, Baptist Church, Lutheran Church, Christadelphian Church and Salvation Army.
