Rèinigeadal
Rèinigeadal (or Rhenigidale) is a small settlement in Harris, Scotland, Harris, in the Western Isles in Scotland. It is situated on the east coast of Harris east of Tarbert, Harris, Tarbert, at the western side of the entrance to Loch Seaforth. Rèinigeadal is situated within the parish of Harris. Rèinigeadal had no road access until 1990; the only route in was along a hill path, or by boat. The road now links to the A859 road (Great Britain), A859. Rèinigeadal has a youth hostel, run by the Gatliff Hebridean Hostels Trust. This opened in 1962, and was the first Gatliff hostel. The hamlet does not have any shops, restaurants or public houses. The National Grid (Great Britain), National Grid only started providing islanders with electricity in 1980, and the hostel only started using electricity in June 1990. Scottish Gaelic
Scottish Gaelic (, ; Endonym and exonym, endonym: ), also known as Scots Gaelic or simply Gaelic, is a Celtic language native to the Gaels of Scotland. As a member of the Goidelic language, Goidelic branch of Celtic, Scottish Gaelic, alongside both Irish language, Irish and Manx language, Manx, developed out of Old Irish. It became a distinct spoken language sometime in the 13th century in the Middle Irish period, although a Classical Gaelic, common literary language was shared by the Gaels of both Ireland and Scotland until well into the 17th century. Most of modern Scotland was once Gaelic-speaking, as evidenced especially by Gaelic-language place names. Tarbert, Harris
Tarbert ( ) is the main community on Harris in the Western Isles of Scotland. The name means "isthmus", "crossing point" or "portage", in Gaelic. The isthmus, between the sea lochs West Loch Tarbert and East Loch Tarbert, joins south Harris to north Harris and Lewis. In 1981 it had a population of 503. Tarbert's Church of Scotland parish church was built in 1862, and is within the parish of Harris. Tarbert also has a Free Presbyterian church. The Very Rev Mackintosh MacKay was minister of the latter in the 1860s. Transport Tarbert has a car ferry terminal which operates to Uig on Skye. Loch Seaforth
Loch Seaforth () is a sea loch in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. It consists of three distinct sections; the most seaward is aligned northwest–southeast, a middle section is aligned northeast–southwest and the inner and most northerly section is aligned east–west. The southern stretch of the loch seaward from Bowglass forms the boundary between Lewis and Harris and was until 1975 the boundary between the traditional counties of Ross and Cromarty and Inverness-shire. The settlement of Rhenigidale lies near the mouth of the loch whilst the settlement of Maaruig lies on Loch Maraig, an embayment on the western side of Loch Seaforth. Further settlement is found around the small bays at Ardvourlie opposite Seaforth Island which sits in the midst of the loch at the point where inland it turns towards the northeast.
