Ruairí Ó Murchú
Ruairí Ó Murchú (; born 3 May 1978) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Louth constituency since the 2020 general election. He was a member of Louth County Council representing the Dundalk South local electoral area from 2017 to 2020, having been co-opted to replace Kevin Meenan who had stood down for personal reasons. Ó Murchú was re-elected to Louth County Council in 2019. Having resigned his seat on the Council in accordance with the Dual Mandate in 2020, Meenan was co-opted back to his former seat. Personal life Ó Murchú grew up in Knockbridge and holds degrees from Dublin City University in Computer Applications and Griffith College Dublin in Computing. A Teachta Dála ( ; ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish language, Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, the parliament of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The official English translation of the term is "Dáil Deputy". An equivalent position would be a Member of parliament, Member of Parliament (MP) in the UK or Member of Congress in the USA. Knockbridge
Knockbridge () is a village in County Louth, Ireland. 7 km south-west of Dundalk, it is in the townland of Ballinlough (''Baile an Locha'') in the historical barony of Dundalk Upper. As of the 2022 census, the village had a population of 759 people. Knockbridge won a "best kept village" award in the 2008 Tidy Towns competition. Facilities The village is centred on a crossroads, where there is a pub and a shop. There are four housing estates, a Roman Catholic church and a large primary school in the village. Stephenstown House, a large ruined Georgian house, once owned by a branch of the Fortescue family, stands beside the River Fane about a mile outside the village. Stephenstown Pond, about a hundred metres from the house, was redeveloped in the mid-1990s and is a public amenity. Stephenstown Pond has a conference centre and community enterprise space. 2019 Irish Local Elections
The 2019 Irish local elections were held in all local authorities in Ireland on Friday, 24 May 2019, on the same day as the 2019 European Parliament election and a referendum easing restrictions on divorce. Each local government area is divided into local electoral areas (LEAs) where three to seven councillors are elected on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote. Administrative boundary changes There was one change to the local government areas since the 2014 elections, with a transfer of land from County Cork to Cork city under the Local Government Act 2019. Reviews of the county boundaries near Drogheda, Athlone, and Carlow ( Graiguecullen) recommended no change. 2020 Irish General Election
The 2020 Irish general election took place on Saturday 8 February, to elect the 33rd Dáil, the lower house of Ireland's parliament. The election was called following the dissolution of the 32nd Dáil by the president, at the request of the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, on 14 January 2020. The members, Teachtaí Dála (TDs), were elected by single transferable vote in multi-seat constituencies. It was the first election since 1918 to be held on a weekend. Following the election, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil entered into a historic coalition government. The election was an unprecedented three-way race, with the three largest parties each winning a share of the vote between 20% and 25%. Louth County Council () is the local authority of County Louth, Ireland. As a county council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. The council is responsible for housing and community, roads and transportation, urban planning and development, amenity and culture, and environment. The council has 29 elected members.
