Rougemont, North Carolina
Rougemont is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Durham and Person counties, North Carolina, United States. The population of the CDP was 978 at the 2010 census. An act to incorporate Rougemont as a town was introduced to the North Carolina General Assembly in 2011, resulting in a referendum where the incorporation was rejected by a margin of 10 votes. Geography Rougemont is located in northern Durham County along U.S. Route 501. The center of town is north of the center of Durham and south of Roxboro. The CDP extends north into Person County as far as the Flat River, east to Moores Mill Road, south to Quail Roost Farm Road, and west to Harris Road and Chambers Road. The Rougemont ZIP code covers a much larger area, extending west into Orange County and east into Granville County, but all population statistics are for the smaller CDP area. Orange County Speedway
Orange County Speedway is a asphalt oval in Orange County, North Carolina, near Rougemont. It first opened in 1966 as a and a dirt oval (Trico Speedway), which operated until 1967 and 1973, respectively. The facility was reopened and paved in 1983. With a slogan of "the fastest 3/8-mile race track in America," the oval features 19-degree banking through the turns and 16 degrees on the straightaways, creating three distinct grooves making for very fast turns. The aluminum grandstands stretch from Turn 4 all the way down the front straightaway to Turn 1. The speedway closed in 2003 but reopened on March 11, 2006. Granville County is a county located on the northern border of the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 60,992. Its county seat is Oxford. The county has access to Kerr Lake and Falls Lake and is part of the Roanoke, Tar and Neuse River watersheds.
