Rosângela Gomes
Rosângela de Souza Gomes (born 27 December 1966) is a Brazilian politician. She has spent her political career representing Rio de Janeiro, having served as state representative since 2015. Personal life She is the daughter of Althair Costa Souza and Sulamite Souza. Gomes is a member of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD), and the endorsement by the church's leader Edir Macedo played a big role in her getting elected to the federal chamber of deputies in the 2014 election. Political career Before being elected to the federal chamber of deputies, Gomes served as a '' vereador'' in her hometown of Nova Iguaçu for a decade, as well as serving in the state legislature from 2011 to 2014. In the aftermath of the 2014 election, Gomes, three other members of the IURD, and two politicians from the Assembleias de Deus church were accused by Rio de Janeiro prosecutors of violating Brazil's campaign laws by campaigning in places of worship. Chamber Of Deputies (Brazil)
The Chamber of Deputies ( pt, Câmara dos Deputados) is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current President of the Chamber is the Deputy Arthur Lira ( PP- AL), who was elected on 1 February 2021. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy. These restrictions favour the smaller states at the expense of the more populous states and so the size of the delegations is not exactly proportional to population. Brazil Labor Reform (2017)
The 2017 labor reform in Brazil was a significant change in the country's Consolidation of Labor Laws ( pt, Consolidação das Leis do Trabalho). According to the government, the goal of the reform was to combat unemployment and the still ongoing 2014 Brazilian economic crisis. The bill was proposed and sent to the Chamber of Deputies by the president Michel Temer on December 23, 2016. Since then, during its processing in the National Congress, it was going through several debates and additions to the original bill, for example, the proposal to end the obligatory syndicate (labor union) tax paid by workers hired under the CLT. The bill was approved by the Chamber on April 26, 2017, with 296 favorable votes and 177 against. Later, in the Federal Senate, it was approved on July 11, 2017, by 50 versus 26 votes.
