Rosehill is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Rosehill is located 18 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Parramatta and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. Rosehill shares the postcode of 2142 with the separate suburbs of Granville, South Granville, Holroyd and Camellia. Comfort Lodge
Comfort Lodge is a heritage-listed former residence and boarding house, now offices, at 62 Prospect Street, Rosehill, New South Wales, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. It was built in 1880. It is also known as Cransley. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The land on which Comfort Lodge stands was auctioned as part of the first subdivision of Elizabeth Farm in February 1883, at which time it was bought by builder William Cameron. He built the house 1889, naming it "Cransley". One subsequent owner was Edwin John Brown OBE, a 29-year Parramatta alderman. Camden, Rosehill
Camden is a heritage-listed residence at 60 Prospect Street, Rosehill, New South Wales, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. It was built in 1883. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History In February 1883, the land was auctioned as part of the first subdivision of Elizabeth Farm. In 1888, there were only three houses recorded in Prospect Street, but by 1889 there were five, including number 60, built by Thomas S. Staff. In 1891, the house was transferred within the family to James S. Staff, who remained there until 1904. The house appears to have been occupied by John G. Carlingford Railway Line
The Carlingford railway line is a former heavy rail line in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was opened from Clyde railway station, Sydney, Clyde to Rosehill railway station, Rosehill Racecourse (later renamed Rosehill) in January 1888, then by means of the construction of a bridge across the Parramatta River, to Carlingford railway station, Carlingford in April 1896. It closed on 5 January 2020 with most of the line converted to be part of Parramatta Light Rail which opened in December 2024. A short section of the line was retained for use by Sydney Trains. Rosehill Gardens Racecourse
The Rosehill Gardens Racecourse is located in the Sydney suburb of Rosehill, New South Wales, Australia. It is operated by the Australian Turf Club. Rosehill holds horse races for thoroughbred gallopers on a grass surface. It is one of the two premier racecourses in Sydney, the other one being Randwick Racecourse. Elizabeth Farm
Elizabeth Farm is a historic estate located at 70 Alice Street, Rosehill, a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Elizabeth Farm was the family home of wool pioneers John and Elizabeth Macarthur. The estate was commenced in 1793 on a slight hill overlooking the upper reaches of Parramatta River, west of Sydney Cove. The Burramattagal clan of the Dharug people are the traditional custodians of the area; their presence is recalled in the name Parramatta. The small, solid three-roomed brick cottage in the Australian Old Colonial style was transformed, by the late 1820s, into a smart country house, surrounded by "pleasure grounds", orchards and almost of semi-cleared land. John Macarthur (wool Pioneer)
John Macarthur (1767 – 11 April 1834) was instrumental in agitating for, and organising, a rebellion against Governor William Bligh (now known as the Rum Rebellion) in January 1808. James Ruse
James Ruse (9 August 17595 September 1837) was a Cornish farmer who, at age 23, was convicted of burglary and was sentenced to seven years' transportation. He arrived at Sydney Cove, New South Wales, on the First Fleet with 18 months of his sentence remaining. Ruse applied to Colony Governor Arthur Phillip for a land grant, stating that he had been bred for farming. Governor Phillip, desperate to make the colony self-sufficient, allocated Ruse an allotment at Rose Hill (now Rosehill, near Parramatta), where he proved himself industrious and showed that it was possible for a family to survive in New South Wales through farming.
