John Russell Smith
John Russell Smith (1810–1894), known as Russell Smith, was an English bookseller and bibliographer. He is best known for his "Library of Old Authors" reprint series. Life He was born at Sevenoaks, Kent, and was apprenticed to John Bryant of Wardour Street, London. He took a shop at 4 Old Compton Street, Soho, and concentrated on English topography and philology. Among his supporters was John Sheepshanks, the collector. In 1842 there was a rift in the Archæological Association. One section of its members, including Thomas Wright, Mark Anthony Lower, James Orchard Halliwell-Phillipps, and Arthur Henfrey, transferred their publications to Russell Smith. The increase of business caused Russell Smith to move to 36 Soho Square. Smith retired from business about 1884, when his stock and copyrights were sold; the "Library of Old Authors" was disposed of to the bookseller William Reeves, and his collection of engravings to Jonathan Nield. Roscoe D'Sane
Roscoe Niiquaye Dsane (born 16 October 1980) is an English professional footballer who last played for Isthmian Division One South side Walton Casuals as a striker. A Crystal Palace youth product, Dsane made his professional debut for Southend United before spells at Slough Town and Woking in 2002. He joined Aldershot Town in May 2002 for a three-year stint, followed by moves to Wealdstone and Lewes. In July 2006, Dsane joined AFC Wimbledon and earned a move to Accrington Stanley a year later. In January 2008, he completed a move to Torquay United for an undisclosed fee. Following a year-long absence, Dsane returned to AFC Wimbledon in 2011, followed by moves to Merstham and Whyteleafe. Roscoe Parrish (born July 16, 1982) is a former American football wide receiver and kick returner. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League in the second round (55th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Miami. Roscoe Hunter Orman (born June 11, 1944) is an American actor, writer, artist and child advocate, best known for playing Gordon Robinson, one of the central human characters on ''Sesame Street''. Roscoe Nicholson
Roscoe Conklin Nicholson (January 22, 1887 – October 22, 1959) was a surveyor and early advocate of conservation, who played an important role in preserving forest land in the U.S. state of Georgia in the early 20th century. Born and raised in Pine Mountain, an unincorporated community at the eastern edge of Rabun County, Georgia he was the first forest ranger in Georgia. Before becoming Georgia's first forest ranger in 1912, he worked as a surveyor for the federal government. Nicholson advised the United States Forest Service in its initial and subsequent land purchases in what is now the Chattooga River Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest. He and Arthur Woody are considered to be the two most important early figures in the history of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Rosco McGlashan (born 1950) OAM is an Australian drag racing record-holder, who currently holds the Australian land speed record at 500 mph (802.6 km/h). This record was set on the 27 March 1994 on the dry salt flats of Lake Gairdner, South Australia northwest of Adelaide. Aussie Invader II McGlashan attempted to set the record in his jet-powered car, Aussie Invader II. The car was powered by a 36,000 hp Atar jet engine from a Mirage jet fighter aeroplane. In February 1995 Rosco and his team headed back to Lake Gairdner for an assault at the 633.468 mph (1,013.55 km/h) world land speed record, held by Richard Noble. Roscoe Holcomb
Roscoe Holcomb, (born Roscoe Halcomb September 5, 1912 – died February 1, 1981) was an American singer, banjo player, and guitarist from Daisy, Kentucky. A prominent figure in Appalachian folk music, Holcomb was the inspiration for the term "high, lonesome sound," coined by folklorist and friend John Cohen. The "high lonesome sound" term is now used to describe bluegrass singing, although Holcomb was not, strictly speaking, a bluegrass performer. Performance style Holcomb's repertoire included old-time music, hymns, traditional music and blues ballads. In addition to playing the banjo and guitar, he was a competent harmonica and fiddle player, and sang many of his most memorable songs a cappella. Holcomb stated "Up till then the blues were only inside me; Blind Lemon was the first to 'let out' the blues." Holcomb sang in a nasal style informed by the Old Regular Baptist vocal tradition.
