Lavender Diamond is an American, Los Angeles-based band, fronted by singer Becky Stark. History While living in Providence, Rhode Island, Stark began performing as Lavender Diamond in a play that she and puppeteer Xander Marro wrote, created and toured with called ''Birdsongs of the Bauharoque'' inspired by the work of artist Paul Laffoley. A self-produced CD of Stark's songs accompanied the tour in a hand-sewn, silkscreened sleeve. Lavender Diamond became a duo and eventually a four-piece band after Stark relocated to Los Angeles. With the help of local patrons Brian Kaneda and Josh Scuteri, Lavender Diamond self-released a four-song EP and performed at L.A.'s ArthurFest, at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, and at the CMJ New Music Seminar in New York City. Becky Stark
Becky Stark is an American artist, singer, songwriter and entertainer from Los Angeles, California. She is the voice of the band Lavender Diamond. Career Becky Stark has performed extensively as a solo artist and leader of the Lavender Diamond band. She appeared in the November 2007 '' Vanity Fair'' "Folk Music Heroes" portfolio by Annie Leibovitz on the page between Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins. In addition to her work with Lavender Diamond she sings with The Living Sisters, a folk trio with Eleni Mandell and Inara George from the Bird and the Bee. The 2007 Lavender Diamond album ''Imagine Our Love'' was released on Matador and Rough Trade Records. A film to accompany the album is currently in production in IMAX format. Paul Laffoley
Paul Laffoley (August 14, 1935 – November 16, 2015) was an American visionary artist and architect based in Boston, Massachusetts. Early Life Paul Laffoley was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to an Irish Catholic family on August 14, 1935. His father, Paul Laffoley Sr., was a lawyer and president of the Cambridge Trust Company. Laffoley Sr. introduced his son to religious and philosophical beliefs, including aspects of Buddhism and Hinduism as well as what he called "mind-physics," but opposed his son's pursuit of painting as a career. Paul Laffoley Jr. wrote that his first spoken word was "Constantinople" at the age of six months, and that he did not speak again until he was four years old. As a child, he was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. South by Southwest (SXSW) is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and Convention (meeting), conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas.
