Roman Bridge In Ilidža
The Roman Bridge ( Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian: ''Rimski Most'' / Римски мост) is a bridge in Ilidža, a chief suburb of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was built in the 16th century using actual Roman stones and crosses the Bosna river. The Roman Bridge is not far from Vrelo Bosne on the Bosna river in the Ilidža municipality. It was constructed sometime between 1530 and 1550 from the original Roman stones and ruins of the bridge that stood there during the Roman period The Roman Empire ruled the Mediterranean and much of Europe, Western Asia and North Africa. The Roman people, Romans conquered most of this during the Roman Republic, Republic, and it was ruled by emperors following Octavian's assumption of .... The bridge connected the Romans with the village of Aquae Sulphurae at the time. Ilidža is also known to have been an archaeological site dating from 2400–2000BC. Ilidža ( sr-cyrl, Илиџа, ) is a spa town and a municipality located in Sarajevo Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It has a total population of 66,730 with 63,528 in Ilidža itself, and is a chief suburb of Sarajevo and ''de facto'' its neighborhood. It is best known for the Vrelo Bosne spring, as well as the natural environment of its surroundings and historical tradition dating back to Neolithic times. Sarajevo International Airport is located nearby. Geography Ilidža is known to have a pleasant and attractive geography. The town itself is built on fairly level ground, although it is surrounded by mountains. The biggest is Mount Igman, whose peak towers above the town. On the mountain grows the "Golden Lily" (''Lilium bosniacum''), a branch of the Liliaceae, Lily family of flowers that is a Fleur-de-lis#Bosnia and Herzegovina, historical symbol of Bosnia.
