Roger Mayer (engineer)
Roger Mayer is an electrical engineer who developed several electric guitar effects, including the '' Octavia'', a fuzz effects pedal which also doubled signal frequency, with a sound that was not attainable by simply connecting an octave pedal and a fuzz pedal together. The effect was popularized by Jimi Hendrix, and can be heard during the solos on the song "Purple Haze". The '' Octavia'', as well as several other effects, are still being produced under Roger Mayer's name. Background Mayer was originally an acoustic engineer working for the British Admiralty on underwater research projects. At a time when guitar effects were virtually unknown, he designed and built fuzz boxes for leading English guitarists such as Big Jim Sullivan, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck. Sammy Drain (March 13, 1945 – July 22, 2016) was a guitarist from Seattle who was well known in the area and considered to be a legend. He also was a friend of rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix and jammed with him before Hendrix found fame. During his lifetime, he was a living link to Hendrix's youth years. Leon Morris Hendrix (born January 13, 1948) is an American painter, songwriter, and musician. Although better known for his artwork, he began playing the guitar in 2002 and has since released multiple albums. He is the younger brother of blues rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Tom Principato (born 1952) is an American electric blues and blues rock singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Principato has recorded more than twenty albums over the years. One of his most recent releases, ''Robert Johnson Told Me So'' (2013), featured keyboard work by Chuck Leavell. ''Electric Ladyland'' is the third and final studio album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, released in October 1968. A double album, it was the only record from the Experience with production solely credited to Hendrix.
