Roenberg
Roenberg was a partnership between Norwegian film directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. They are best known for directing ''Kon-Tiki'' (2012), which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Early life and career In the 1980s, Espen Sandberg and his childhood friend Joachim Rønning spent their free time making short films with Rønning's father's 30-pound home video camera. In 1992 the duo attended Stockholm Film School in Sweden, and graduated in 1994. In 1995 they founded their own company. They called it "Roenberg", a portmanteau of their last names. Sandberg and Rønning established themselves in the American market with their spots for Capital One, Labatt's and especially with their USA Today Super Bowl 2001 Viewer's Poll-winning spot Rex for Budweiser. Joachim Rønning
Joachim Rønning (born 30 May 1972) is a Norwegian film director who previously worked in a partnership with Espen Sandberg, both of whom came from Sandefjord, Norway. As a directing team, they went under the name of Roenberg (a portmanteau of their surnames). They co-own one of Scandinavia's largest production companies for commercials called Motion Blur. Rønning now develops and directs film and television as a solo director. Joachim married Amanda Hearst on August 2, 2019. Career In 2006, Rønning and Espen Sandberg directed their feature film debut, ''Bandidas'', starring Penélope Cruz and Salma Hayek. The film was released worldwide through EuropaCorp and Twentieth Century Fox. The film was written and produced by French filmmaker Luc Besson. Espen Sandberg (born 2 June 1971) is a Norwegian film director and advertising producer, well known to work with his childhood friend and director Joachim Rønning on several projects such as ''Bandidas'' (2006), '' Max Manus: Man of War'' (2008), ''Kon-Tiki'' (2012) and '' Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'' (2017). ''Kon-Tiki'' is a 2012 historical drama film directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg about the 1947 ''Kon-Tiki'' expedition. The film was mainly shot on the island of Malta. Rotten Tomatoes is an American review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Although the name "Rotten Tomatoes" connects to the practice of audiences throwing rotten tomatoes in disapproval of a poor stage performance, the original inspiration comes from a scene featuring tomatoes in the Canadian film '' Léolo'' (1992). Kon-Tiki
The ''Kon-Tiki'' expedition was a 1947 journey by raft across the Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian islands, led by Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyerdahl. The raft was named ''Kon-Tiki'' after the Inca god Viracocha, for whom "Kon-Tiki" was said to be an old name. ''Kon-Tiki'' is also the name of Heyerdahl's book, the Academy Award–winning 1950 documentary film chronicling his adventures, and the 2012 dramatized feature film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Thor Heyerdahl
Thor Heyerdahl KStJ (; 6 October 1914 – 18 April 2002) was a Norwegian adventurer and ethnographer with a background in zoology, botany and geography. Heyerdahl is notable for his ''Kon-Tiki'' expedition in 1947, in which he sailed 8,000 km (5,000 mi) across the Pacific Ocean in a hand-built raft from South America to the Tuamotu Islands. The expedition was designed to demonstrate that ancient people could have made long sea voyages, creating contacts between societies. This was linked to a diffusionist model of cultural development. Heyerdahl made other voyages to demonstrate the possibility of contact between widely separated ancient peoples, notably the ''Ra II'' expedition of 1970, when he sailed from the west coast of Africa to Barbados in a papyrus reed boat.
