Rockville is a small Unincorporated area, unincorporated community in northern-central Solano County, California, Solano County, California, southwest of Fairfield, California, Fairfield and closest to Cordelia, California, Cordelia. Yulyul, the main village of the Suisun people, Suisunes (a Patwin people of the Suisun Bay region), is believed to be where Rockville is located today. The main economic activities are farming, tourism, and the large regional Rockville Cemetery. Tourism Rockville is the home of the Rockville Hills Regional Park, consisting of 633 acres of grasslands and oak woodlands, with a dense mixed broadleaf forest through which there are many hiking and biking trails. Rockville Hills Regional Park is a 633-acre (~256 hectare, 2.56 square kilometer) regional park in the city of Fairfield, Solano County, California, United States. The park is known for its volcanic rocks, thin topsoil, grasses, and blue oak trees. There are also oak woodlands, grassland savannas, chaparral and some aquatic habitats. History During the 1960s, the city of Fairfield was going to build a golf course on the land. However, they decided to transform the area into a trailed park instead. In 2012, nearly 200 oak and manzanita trees were removed from the park at the behest of PG&E, the major California power company, to avoid sparking fires. In 2015, it was reported to be one of the best mountain biking spots in the San Francisco Bay Area by the Sacramento Bee. Suisun Bay
Suisun Bay ( ; Wintun for "where the west wind blows") is a shallow tidal estuary (a northeastern extension of the San Francisco Bay) in Northern California. It lies at the confluence of the Sacramento River and San Joaquin River, forming the entrance to the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, an inverted river delta. To the west, Suisun Bay is drained by the Carquinez Strait, which connects to San Pablo Bay, a northern extension of San Francisco Bay. Grizzly Bay forms a northern extension of Suisun Bay. The Patwin (also Patween and Southern Wintu) are a band of Wintun people in Northern California. The Patwin comprise the southern branch of the Wintun group, native inhabitants of California since approximately 500. Suisun People
The Suisunes (also called the Suisun and the "People of the West Wind") were a Patwin tribe of Wintun people, originating in the Suisun Bay and Suisun Marsh regions of Solano County in Northern California. Their traditional homelands stretched between what is now Suisun City, Vacaville and Putah Creek around 200 years ago. The Suisunes' main village, Yulyul, is believed to be where Rockville, California is located today. Father Abella, visitor to the tribe in 1811, indicated they resided in the present location of Fairfield, north of the Suisun Bay.Milliken 1995:255. Cordelia is located at the junction of Interstate 80 and California State Route 12 and at the northern end of Interstate 680 (California), Interstate 680, west of Fairfield, California, Fairfield, which has annexed substantial portions of its surroundings. History The community of Cordelia was founded in 1853 by clipper ship captain Robert H. Waterman, and initially named "Bridgeport" after the Atlantic coastal town of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Around 1869, a post office was established, and the United States Post Office Department declared that a more unique name for the town should be chosen.
