Robinson Road, Hong Kong
Robinson Road (Traditional Chinese characters, Chinese: 羅便臣道) is a thoroughfare located in Mid-Levels, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. To the east, it intersects with Magazine Gap Road and Garden Road, Hong Kong, Garden Road, while to the west, it connects with Babington Path and Park Road, Hong Kong, Park Road. Naming Robinson Road was named after the fifth Governor of Hong Kong, Hercules Robinson, 1st Baron Rosmead, Sir Hercules Robinson. In Kowloon, Nathan Road was also initially referred to as Robinson Road until 1907. The road was later renamed to alleviate confusion with its counterpart in the Mid-Levels. Hercules Robinson, 1st Baron Rosmead
Hercules George Robert Robinson, 1st Baron Rosmead, (19 December 1824 – 28 October 1897), was a British colonial administrator who became the 5th Governor of Hong Kong, then 13th Governor of Ceylon, and subsequently, the 14th Governor of New South Wales, the first Governor of Fiji, and the 8th Governor of New Zealand. Later in his career he held various positions in Southern Africa, including two terms as Governor of the Cape Colony. From June 1859 until August 1896, he was known as Sir Hercules Robinson. Early life and Government career He was of Irish descent on both sides; his father was Admiral Hercules Robinson, his mother was Frances Elizabeth Wood, from Rosmead, County Westmeath, from which he afterwards took his title. Bernice Jan Liu Bik-yee (born January 6, 1979) is a Canadian actress, singer, and commercial model based in Hong Kong. She has previously held the title Miss Chinese Vancouver 2000 as well as Miss Chinese International 2001, the latter position bringing her fame in Hong Kong. Ohel Leah Synagogue
The Ohel Leah Synagogue () is a Modern Orthodox Jewish congregation and synagogue, located at the junction of Robinson Road and Castle Road, in the Mid Levels on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. Conduit Road
Conduit Road () is a road in the Mid-Levels on Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. Road and buildings Conduit Road was constructed in 1910. It is located in Western Mid-Levels. It is named after the aqueduct passing underneath which carries water from the Pok Fu Lam Reservoir to the Central area. It is at the highest point on Victoria Peak reached by the Central–Mid-Levels escalators. It is also the second highest road; second to Po Shan Road; in Western Mid-Levels. Central–Mid-Levels Escalator
The Central–Mid-Levels escalator and walkway system in Hong Kong is the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world. The system covers over in distance and traverses an elevation of over from bottom to top. It opened in 1993 to provide an improved link between Central, Hong Kong, Central and the Mid-Levels on Hong Kong Island. The Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) is a statutory body of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with the responsibility of advising the Secretary for Development, Antiquities Authority on any matters relating to antiquities and monuments. The AAB was established in 1976 along with the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) when the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance (Cap. 53) was enacted, and comprises members appointed by the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Chief Executive.
