Roberto Hernández (archer)
Roberto Alexander Hernández Maldonado (born 9 January 1989) is a Salvadoran archer competing in men's compound events. He won the gold medal in the men's individual compound event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru. As a result, he became the first man from El Salvador to win gold at the Pan American Games. He was the flag bearer during the Parade of Nations at the 2019 Pan American Games opening ceremony. In 2013, Hernández represented El Salvador at the World Games in Cali, Colombia and won the bronze medal in the men's compound event. He also competed at the 2017 World Games in Wrocław, Poland without winning a medal. He represented El Salvador at the 2022 World Games held in Birmingham, United States. He competed in the men's individual compound and mixed team compound events. El Salvador, officially the Republic of El Salvador, is a country in Central America. World Games
The World Games are an international multi-sport event comprising sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested in the Olympic Games. They are usually held every four years, one year after a Summer Olympic Games, over the course of 11 days. The World Games are governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. In the most recent editions, between 25 and 34 sports have been included in the official program. The 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games (Spanish language, Spanish: Juegos Deportivos Centroamericanos y del Caribe San Salvador 2023), also known as the 24th Central American and Caribbean Games and commonly known as San Salvador 2023, was the 24th edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games, a quadrennial sports multi-sport event which was held from 23 June to 8 July 2023 in San Salvador, El Salvador. The 2022 World Games, commonly known as Birmingham 2022, were an international multi-sport event held from July 7 to 17, 2022, in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. They were the 11th World Games, a multi-sport event featuring disciplines of Olympic sports and other competitions that are not currently contested at the Olympic Games; the Games featured 3,457 athletes competing in 223 medal events over 34 total sports. They were originally scheduled to be held in 2021, but were postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2017 World Games (), also known as Wrocław 2017, was the tenth edition of the World Games, held from 20 to 30 July 2017 in Wrocław, Poland. The World Games were organized by the Wrocław Organizing Committee. Wrocław was selected as the host city in January 2012 in Lausanne, over Budapest, Hungary. The 2013 World Games (), the ninth World Games, were an international multi-sport event held in the city of Cali, Colombia, from July 25 to August 4. It is the first edition of the World Games to be held in South America. Host city allocation history The 2013 World Games were initially allocated to the German cities of Duisburg and Düsseldorf. However, at the end of 2008, Duisburg withdrew and Düsseldorf dropped out because both cities could not secure enough funding, partly as a result of the 2008 financial crisis and the subsequent Great Recession.
