Roberto Goitre
Roberto Goitre (Turin, 1927 - Piacenza, 1980) was an Italian choirmaster, composer and teacher. Upon finishing his academic studies, Goitre devoted himself entirely to choral conducting. At the beginning of the 1960s, on invitation from Marcello Abbado, he became director of the choir of the "Giuseppe Nicolini" Conservatoire in Piacenza, where he taught until his death in 1980. In the 1970s Goitre turned his attention to the musical pedagogy of Zoltán Kodály and spent a significant amount of time in Hungary carrying out research. He also widened his knowledge of Italian and Hungarian folk tunes, which he made use of when creating exercises and examples to include in his own teaching method, the Cantar Leggendo (meaning "to sing whilst reading"), published in 1972 by the Suvini Zerboni Suvini Zerboni (ESZ) Italian music publishing house founded in 1907 in Milan, taking its name from the theater society of the same name. Marcello Abbado
Marcello Abbado (7 October 19264 June 2020) was an Italian pianist, composer, conductor and academic teacher. His compositions include several orchestral works, two ballets, numerous pieces for solo piano, and chamber music. As a pianist, he played in major concert halls of the world. He taught composition at several conservatories, ultimately at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory. In 1989 he was awarded the Gold Medal for Meritorious Culture and Art (Medaglia d'oro ai benemeriti della cultura e dell'arte) by the Government of Italy. Early life and education Born in Milan into a family of famous musicians, he was the son of violinist , brother of conductor Claudio Abbado, and father of conductor Roberto Abbado and digital artist Adriano Abbado. Zoltán Kodály
Zoltán Kodály (; hu, Kodály Zoltán, ; 16 December 1882 – 6 March 1967) was a Hungarian composer, ethnomusicologist, pedagogue, linguist, and philosopher. He is well known internationally as the creator of the Kodály method of music education. Life Born in Kecskemét, Hungary, Kodály learned to play the violin as a child. In 1900, he entered the Department of Languages at the University of Budapest and at the same time Hans von Kössler's composition class at the Royal Hungarian Academy of Music. After completing his studies, he studied in Paris with Charles Widor for a year. In 1905 he visited remote villages to collect songs, recording them on phonograph cylinders. In 1906 he wrote a thesis on Hungarian folk song, "Strophic Construction in Hungarian Folksong". Mario Pigazzini
Mario Pigazzini is the current director of the Coro Polifonico Farnesiano, in Piacenza, Italy. He took over the reins of the choir in 1981, following the untimely death of Roberto Goitre the previous year. Pigazzini had been taught by Goitre and, since his appointment as director, has been using and developing Goitre's teaching method, called "Cantar Leggendo", which is similar to the Kodály Method. Pigazzini established a three-year preparation course for children wishing to enter the Children's Choir and a course for members of the Adult Choir who want to develop their music reading skills. He also created a Youth Choir for girls between the ages of 15 and 23 and an instrumental ensemble to accompany the choirs where necessary.
