Brighton
Brighton () is a seaside resort and one of the two main areas of the City of Brighton and Hove in the county of East Sussex, England. It is located south of London. Archaeological evidence of settlement in the area dates back to the Bronze Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods. The ancient settlement of "Brighthelmstone" was documented in the '' Domesday Book'' (1086). The town's importance grew in the Middle Ages as the Old Town developed, but it languished in the early modern period, affected by foreign attacks, storms, a suffering economy and a declining population. ''Squibs' Honeymoon'' is a 1923 British silent film, silent comedy film directed by George Pearson (filmmaker), George Pearson and starring Betty Balfour, Hugh E. Wright and Fred Groves (actor), Fred Groves. It was the last of the silent film series featuring the character, although Balfour returned to play her in the 1935 sound film ''Squibs (1935 film), Squibs''. Both Pearson and Balfour were particular favourites of the British film critic, and later leading screenwriter, Roger Burford. In his first article for the magazine ''Close Up'' Burford would write "Not long ago a film of the ''Squibbs'' series was reported to be on at a small cinema in a slum district. It was a rare chance, and we went at once. Plot After being disinherited by his father due to his extravagant lifestyle, Lord Bering's acquisitive society fiancée breaks off the engagement. It was based on the 1905 novel '' The Four Just Men'' by Edgar Wallace. The film still survives unlike many other silent films of the era which are now considered lost. Its plot concerns four vigilantes who seek revenge for the public against criminals. Synopsis A hard-headed business tycoon, begins receiving threatening letters from a group who describe themselves as the "Four Just Men". Unless mends his ways and treats his workers better, they promise to kill him. Scotland Yard are called in, but struggle to protect him from the seemingly ever-present threat.
