Robert Lowther (1681–1745)
Robert Lowther (13 December 1681 – September 1745) was an English landowner, holding the estate of Maulds Meaburn, and colonial governor. He was the eldest son of Richard Lowther and Barbara Prickett. He owned the Christchurch Plantation, a slave plantation in Barbados. From 1711 to 1714 and 1715 to 1720, he served as Governor of Barbados. The Privy Council met in Whitehall to hear several complaints against Lowther on 4, 5, 12, 18 and 25 October 1720. At their meeting on the 25th the Council ordered a warrant to be issued for Lowther's arrest for 'Crimes and Misdemeanours Committed by him in the said Island, which were fully proved before Their Excellencies in the council, and several other Complaints having been made to this Board against him, Their Excellencies Judged it incumbent on them to take care that Crimes so Heinous should not Escape the punishment due to them by Law'.''Barbados''. The Principal Storekeeper of the Ordnance was a subordinate of the Master-General of the Ordnance and a member of the English (and later British) Board of Ordnance from its constitution in 1597. John Frere (Barbados)
John Frere (10 August 1740 – 12 July 1807) was an English antiquary and a pioneering discoverer of Old Stone Age or Lower Palaeolithic tools in association with large extinct animals at Hoxne, Suffolk in 1797. Life Frere was born in Roydon Hall, Norfolk, the son of Sheppard Frere and Susanna Hatley. Ellenor Fenn was his sister. In 1766, Frere received his MA from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he was Second Wrangler and was elected to a fellowship. He subsequently held several political offices and was appointed High Sheriff of Suffolk for 1776–77. He was elected a member of parliament for Norwich from 1799 to 1802.
