Robert Bermingham Clements, Viscount Clements (May 1805 – 24 January 1839) was an Irish politician. The son of the Earl of Leitrim, Clements grew up at Lough Rynn, County Leitrim. He served as a captain in the Prince of Wales's Militia, based in County Donegal County Donegal ( ; ) is a Counties of Ireland, county of the Republic of Ireland. It is in the Provinces of Ireland, province of Ulster and is the northernmost county of Ireland. The county mostly borders Northern Ireland, sharing only a small b .... At the 1826 UK general election, he stood as a Whig in Leitrim. He won the seat, and held it in 1830, but lost it at the 1831 UK general election. At the 1832 UK general election, he won it back, and held it in 1835 and 1837, serving until his death in 1839. He was succeeded both as Viscount Clements and in Parliament by his younger brother. Earl of Leitrim was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. History The earldom of Leitrim was created in 1795 for Robert Clements, 1st Viscount Leitrim. He had already been created Baron Leitrim, of Manor Hamilton in the County of Leitrim, in 1783, and Viscount Leitrim in 1793, also in the Peerage of Ireland. In 1800 he was elected as one of the 28 original Irish representative peer. Lord Leitrim was the son of the influential politician and financier Nathaniel Clements. He was succeeded by his son, the second Earl. He was created Baron Clements, of Kilmacrenan in the County of Donegal, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 1831, which gave him and his descendants an automatic seat in the House of Lords. His eldest son Robert Clements, Viscount Clements, represented County Leitrim in Parliament. However, he predeceased his father, unmarried. William Sydney Clements, 3rd Earl of Leitrim (15 October 1806 – 2 April 1878), was an Anglo-Irish nobleman and landlord notorious in Irish history for his mistreatment of his tenants. He was assassinated in the north of County Donegal in Ireland in April 1878. Early life William Sydney Clements was born in Dublin on 15 October 1806. He was the second son of Nathaniel Clements, 2nd Earl of Leitrim and the former Mary Bermingham (1840). Aside from his elder brother, he had three younger brothers, including Capt. Hon.
