Rivière Du Poste
Rivière Du Poste is a village in the southern part of Mauritius located in both Savanne and Grand Port districts. The locality is about 19 miles (30 km) south of Port Louis, the nation's capital. The village is administered by the Rivière du Poste Village Council under the aegis of the Savanne District Council. According to the census made by Statistics Mauritius in 2011, the population was 2,170. The neighboring villages are La Flora (north west), Mare Tabac and Rose Belle (north east) and Camp Diable and Riviere Dragon in the south of the village. History Rivière du Poste is named after the second largest river in Mauritius which crosses by the village and separates it into two districts: Savanne and Grand Port. The local post office opened in 1909 which was before the railway station. Grand Port District
Grand Port () is a district of Mauritius, situated in the east of the island. The name means "large port" in French. The district has an area of 260.3 km2 and the estimated population was 112,997, as of 31 December 2015. History Grand Port is named after the village of 'Old Grand Port' which saw the first Dutch landing and the first port of the island. It is centered on the town of Mahébourg on the coast, inside the Grand Port Bay. Built by the Dutch and later taken over by the French, the town is a reminder of the colonial past of the island. In 1810, a French squadron of frigates achieved an ultimately futile naval victory over a comparable British squadron at the Battle of Grand Port, near the Île de la Passe. Statistics Mauritius, formerly known as the Central Statistics Office (CSO) until 2000, is the national statistical agency of Mauritius. It operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and is responsible for all statistical activities except for fisheries and health statistics which fall under the responsibility of the respective ministry. Mauritius Time, or MUT, is the time zone used by the Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius. The zone is four hours ahead of UTC ( UTC+04:00). Mauritius does not use daylight saving time, however, it has been used in the past. Daylight saving time was first introduced in Mauritius in 1982, however, it was discontinued the following year. It was re-introduced in 2008, however, it was not used in 2009 or since. In 2008, the period started at 2 am UTC+5 (1 am UTC+4) on 26 October 2008 (the last Sunday in October), and ended at 2 am UTC+5 (1 am UTC+4) on 29 March 2009 (the last Sunday in March).
