Riverdale, Halifax County, Virginia
Riverdale is a census-designated place in Halifax County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 census was 956. Geography Riverdale is located in south-central Halifax County on the south side of the Dan River, an east-flowing tributary of the Roanoke River. The community is bordered to the north by the town of South Boston, the largest town in the county. Three U.S. highways pass through Riverdale. U.S. Routes 58 and 360 enter Riverdale together from the west, leading to Danville. The two highways cross U.S. Route 501 at what used to be the center of Riverdale but has since been annexed by the town of South Boston. US 501 leads north through South Boston towards Lynchburg, away, while to the south the highway leads to Durham, North Carolina. US 58 and 360 split in the eastern part of Riverdale, with US 360 leading northeast to Keysville and US 58 leading east to South Hill. Dan River
The Dan River flows in the U.S. states of North Carolina and Virginia. It rises in Patrick County, Virginia, and crosses the state border into Stokes County, North Carolina. It then flows into Rockingham County. From there it flows back into Virginia through Pittsylvania County before reentering North Carolina near the border between Caswell County and Rockingham County. It flows into northern Caswell County and then back into southern Virginia (briefly Pittsylvania County, then into Halifax County) and finally into Kerr Reservoir on the Roanoke River. South Hill, Virginia
South Hill is a town in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, United States. The population was 4,650 at the 2010 census. Located on major Interstate and U.S. highways, it has a full-service hospital (serving patients from several rural counties), a tobacco market, and several hotels. Keysville is a town in Charlotte County, Virginia, United States. The population was 832 at the 2010 census. One of two branches of Southside Virginia Community College is in Keysville. The surrounding area has tobacco and mixed farming. Geography Keysville is in eastern Charlotte County. South Boston, Virginia
South Boston, formerly Boyd's Ferry, is a town in Halifax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 8,142 at the 2010 census, down from 8,491 at the 2000 census. It is the most populous town in Halifax County. History On December 8, 1796, the Virginia General Assembly authorized eight commissioners to establish at Boyd's Ferry on the south side of the Dan River the town of South Boston, named for Boston, Massachusetts. Roanoke River

The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
