Riot (band)
Riot V, formerly known as Riot, is an American heavy metal band formed in New York City whose origins began in 1975 by guitarist Mark Reale. Achieving peak success and popularity during the early 1980s, the band has continued a long-running successful career. Riot's sound initially started out as straightforward heavy metal, but since their 1988 release '' Thundersteel'', their musical style has shifted a little towards power metal. In 2013, surviving members of Riot re-formed the band to Riot V, after the death of founder, guitarist, primary songwriter and leader Mark Reale. The group uses a baby seal face as a logo on its album covers. Wacken Open Air
Wacken Open Air (, abbreviated as W:O:A) is a Heavy metal music, heavy metal music festival, held annually since 1990 on the first weekend of August in the village of Wacken, Schleswig-Holstein, Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Almost all styles and subgenres of hard rock and heavy metal music, metal are represented and hosted. It is now one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany. Thundersteel
''Thundersteel'' is the sixth studio album by the American heavy metal band Riot, released after coming back from a period of inactivity in the mid-1980s. It features a totally different line-up from that of the previous work, with guitarist Mark Reale being the only remaining member. It was re-issued in 2003 by Collectables Records with slightly amended artwork and re-issued on 180g vinyl as a 2-LP set with '' The Privilege of Power'' by SPV on February 25, 2013. The album originally charted at No. 150 on ''Billboard'' 200 The song "Thundersteel" was originally written by Mark Reale and Don Van Stavern for 'Narita', a short-lived project Reale formed with members of S.A. Slayer following the demise of Riot in 1984. A demo released by Narita exists, with "Thundersteel" and two other tracks: "Liar" and "The Feeling Is Gone". Rupert Perry
Rupert Perry was educated at Beaudesert School 1955-1961 and at Greshhams School 1962-1964. Started his music business career in 1967 joining Campbell Connelly Music Publishers in their background music library. In 1969 he joined Louvigny Music Publishing, a Radio Luxembourg company. He was a high-ranking member of the EMI Record Corporation. After joining EMI Music in 1971, he was given various promotions. In 1976 he was appointed Vice President of the Artist and Repertoire Department for Capitol Records in the US. In 1982 he was appointed as President of EMI America. From 1986-1995, Perry served as President of EMI Records UK, followed by a promotion to President of EMI Europe until 1999, when he became Senior Worldwide Vice President of EMI Music. Fire Down Under
''Fire Down Under'' is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Riot, released in 1981, it's the last album to feature original vocalist Guy Speranza. The song "Flashbacks" is dedicated to Neal Kay, a British DJ who supported heavy metal in the UK during the new wave of British heavy metal. The album was re-issued on CD in 1997 by the German-based High Vaultage label, utilizing a new, controversial remix by former Riot producer Steve Loeb, and in 1999 by Metal Blade Records in the U.S., this time featuring the original Elektra mix. The album was reissued in 2014 courtesy of Varèse Sarabande. All three versions contain various bonus tracks recorded for the original Capitol Records version of ''Fire Down Under'' which the band were unhappy with. Sam Roy Hagar (born October 13, 1947), also known as the Red Rocker, is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. ''Narita'' is the second studio album by the American heavy metal band Riot. The album was initially released in 1979. It became out of print in the late 1980s and was only being pressed in CD format in Japan in 1989 until the early 1990s. It was finally issued on CD outside Japan in 2005 by UK-based Rock Candy Records, run by former ''Kerrang!'' writers Derek Oliver and Dante Bonutto. 'Narita' was also the name of a short-lived San Antonio, Texas-based Riot offshoot, featuring guitarist Mark Reale along with former S.A. Neal Kay
Neal Kay (born 10 February 1950) is a former London-based disc jockey, who was an important factor in the rise of the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM), along with Tommy Vance, in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Career Neal Kay has always been a DJ. He started out in the local youth club in the mid-sixties, and by the end of the 60s was a well established London-based night club DJ, working fully 6 nights a week. In 1969 he went to West Berlin with his future first wife, a dancer, to guest DJ in two clubs a night from dusk until dawn. His main club in Berlin was the Playboy Club. He also guested from time to time with the British Army. The new wave of British heavy metal (often abbreviated as NWOBHM) was a nationwide musical movement that began in England in the mid-1970s and achieved international attention by the early 1980s. Editor Alan Lewis (music journalist), Alan Lewis coined the term for an article by Geoff Barton in a May 1979 issue of the British music newspaper ''Sounds (magazine), Sounds'' to describe the emergence of heavy metal music, heavy metal bands in the mid-to-late 1970s, as punk rock declined amid the dominance of new wave music. Molly Hatchet
Molly Hatchet is an American rock band formed by guitarist Dave Hlubek in Jacksonville, Florida in 1971. They experienced popularity and commercial success during the late 1970s and early to mid-1980s amongst southern rock and hard rock communities and listeners. The band released six studio albums on Epic Records between 1978 and 1984, including the platinum-selling hit records '' Molly Hatchet'' (1978), '' Flirtin' with Disaster'' (1979) and '' Beatin' the Odds'' (1980). ''Rock City'' is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Riot; it was released in 1977. It was first released independently by Fire Sign Records, run by the band's producers, Billy Arnell and Steve Loeb, who also owned the Greene Street Recording Studio, before the album was picked up for wider distribution by Canada's Attic Records and by Victor Entertainment in Japan. Vinyl copies of ''Rock City'' can be differentiated by the color that frames the front cover artwork. The original Fire Sign pressing is framed in white; later editions are framed in black or lack this feature altogether.
