Rio, 100 Degrees F. (Portuguese: ''Rio, 40 Graus'') is a 1955 Brazilian film written and directed by Nelson Pereira dos Santos. It is dos Santos' first feature work, inspired by the Italian Italian neorealism, Neo-Realism, and is considered a precursor of the Cinema Novo movement. Synopsis One Sunday, five boys from the favela go to different parts of the city to sell peanuts. Zeca, Sujinho, Jorge, Paulinho and Xerife interconnect the focused stories, covering five touristic points: Copacabana, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Corcovado, Quinta da Boa Vista and Maracanã Stadium. In addition to trying to make a living, they decide to accumulate money to buy a soccer ball. Jorge also needs to sell enough to buy medicine for his sick mother. He goes to Copacabana, is bumped into and his can of peanuts falls into the sea. Nelson Pereira Dos Santos
Nelson Pereira dos Santos (22 October 1928 21 April 2018) was a Brazilian film director. He directed films such as ''Vidas secas (film), Vidas Secas'' (Barren Lives, 1963), based on the Vidas Secas, book with the same name by Brazilian writer Graciliano Ramos, and his most well-known film outside of Brazil is the black comedy ''How Tasty Was My Little Frenchman'' (1971). Biography Pereira dos Santos, named in honor of Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, Horatio Nelson, was born in São Paulo, Brazil. Himself a frequenter of the cinema, Pereira dos Santos's father brought his very young son to the movie theater for the first time. By secondary school Pereira dos Santos was already fond of literature, and at 15 years old he joined the Brazilian Communist Party and became close to one of its other members, Astrojildo Pereira, Astrogildo Pereira. Mauro Mendonça
Mauro Mendonça (born April 2, 1931) is a Brazilian actor. Born in Ubá, he started his career in 1955 in the Teatro Brasileiro de Comédia. He debuted in the 1963 TV Excelsior telenovela ''Corações em Conflito''. He went on to act on Rede Record and TV Tupi before moving to Rede Globo in 1973, where he continues to practice acting. He has been married to actress Rosamaria Murtinho since 1959, and has three children: director Mauro Mendonça Filho, actor Rodrigo Mendonça, and musical producer João Paulo Mendonça.
