Ohio State Route 424
State Route 424 (SR 424) was an east–west state highway in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. The route was a former section of US 24 that ran parallel to the Maumee River and Miami and Erie Canal between the cities of Defiance and Napoleon. First designated in 1964, the western terminus of the route for most of its history was at an intersection with US 24 west of Defiance, though between 2008 and when the route was fully removed from the state highway system in 2012, it was at the Defiance County/ Henry County line. Its eastern terminus was at a dead end near the US 6 / US 24 interchange east of Napoleon. Ohio State Route 18
State Route 18 (SR 18) is an east–west highway in northern Ohio. It is the sixth longest state route in the state. Its western terminus is at the Indiana state line near Hicksville, where the route continues in Indiana as State Road 8, and its eastern terminus is at State Route 91 in Akron. Defiance is a city in Defiance County, Ohio, United States, and its county seat. The population was 17,066 at the 2020 census. It is located at the confluence of the Auglaize and Maumee rivers about southwest of Toledo and northeast of Fort Wayne, Indiana, in Ohio's northwestern corner. History The city contains the site of Fort Defiance, built by General "Mad" Anthony Wayne in August 1794 during the Northwest Indian War. Wayne surveyed the land and declared to General Charles Scott, "I defy the English, Indians, and all the devils of hell to take it." Using the fort as a base of operations, Wayne ordered his troops to destroy Native American crops and villages within a radius of around the fort.
