Brigadier-General Richard Henry Pratt (December 6, 1840 – March 15, 1924) was a United States Army officer who founded the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania in 1879 and served as its longtime superintendent. Prior to this, Pratt supervised Native American prisoners of war held at Fort Marion in St. Augustine, Florida. He is known for using the phrase "kill the Indian, save the man" in reference to the ethos of the school and efforts to forcibly assimilate Native Americans into white American culture. Pratt is also associated with the first recorded use of the word "racism," which he used in 1902 to criticize racial segregation in the United States. Richard Pratt (23 June 1896 – 10 October 1982) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire in 1923 and 1924. Pratt was born at Lower Broughton, Salford, Lancashire. He made his debut for Derbyshire in August 1923 against Leicestershire. In his two innings, he made 13 and 2 which was to remain a typical scoreline for most of his matches. He played one more match in 1923 and three in 1924. Against Surrey he made his top score of 17 not out. Pratt was a right-hand batsman and played ten innings in five first-class matches with an average of 8.11 and a top score of 17 not out. He was an occasional wicket-keeper but never performed as such in first-class cricket. In the year before his death, Pratt was Australia's fourth-richest person, with a personal fortune valued at billion. Early life Ryszard Przecicki was born in the Free City of Danzig (present-day Gdańsk, Poland) to Jewish parents Leon and Paula on 10 December 1934. His family immigrated to Australia in 1938, seeking safe refuge from the Nazis, and settled in Shepparton, Victoria, changing their surname from Przecicki to Pratt. Richie Pratt (born Richard Dean Tyree; March 11, 1943 – February 12, 2015) was an American jazz drummer. He embarked upon a career as a professional musician on the New York scene in the early 1970s, it was as much due to an unanticipated sporting injury as anything else. Pratt was born into a musical family (his mother was a church pianist and a brother is saxophonist Chris Burnett) and grew up in the Kansas City metro city of Olathe, Kansas.
