Richard Hawley
Richard Willis Hawley (born 17 January 1967) is an English singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer. After his first band Treebound Story (formed while he was still at school) broke up, Hawley found success as a member of Britpop band Longpigs in the 1990s. He played with Pulp, led by his friend Jarvis Cocker, as a touring musician for a short time. As a solo musician, Hawley has released eight studio albums. He has been nominated for a Mercury prize twice and once for a Brit Award. He has collaborated with Lisa Marie Presley, Shakespears Sister, Arctic Monkeys, Manic Street Preachers, Elbow, Duane Eddy and Paul Weller. The Sun Is Often Out
''The Sun Is Often Out'' (stylized as ''THE SUN iS OfTEN oUT'') is the debut album by Longpigs, released in 1996 on U2's record label, Mother Records. Five singles were released from the album, initially to little success. The first two"She Said" and "Jesus Christ"both failed to crack the UK Top 40, both stalling at No. 67. The third single, "Far", fared a little better, scraping into the Top 40, reaching No. 37 and receiving significant radio airplay, particularly on the national pop and rock radio station, BBC Radio 1. However, the next single, "On and On", would be the band's breakthrough single, reaching No. 16 in the UK. With this momentum the album was released in April, and shortly after, "She Said" was re-released, also making it to No. 16 in the UK singles chart. Stephen Patrick Mackey (10 November 1966 – 2 March 2023) was an English musician and record producer best known as the bass guitarist for the Britpop band Pulp, which he joined in 1989. As a record producer, he produced songs and albums by M.I.A., Florence + the Machine, The Long Blondes and Arcade Fire. Early life Mackey was born in Manchester on 10 November 1966, and moved to Sheffield. In his early years he attended Hucklow First and Middle Schools with friend Richard Hawley, who would later play with Pulp as a touring musician. He attended Hinde House Comprehensive in Sheffield before undertaking further studies at Richmond College of Further Education. John William Weller (born 25 May 1958), better known as Paul Weller, is an English singer-songwriter and musician. Weller achieved fame in the late 1970s as the guitarist and principal singer and songwriter of the rock band the Jam, alongside Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler. The band gained significant critical and commercial success in the United Kingdom, and were the most influential band of the mod revival of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Duane Eddy (April 26, 1938 – April 30, 2024) was an American guitarist. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he had a string of hit records produced by Lee Hazlewood which were noted for their characteristically "twangy" guitar sound, including " Rebel-'Rouser", "Peter Gunn", and " Because They're Young". Manic Street Preachers, also known simply as the Manics, are a Wales, Welsh Rock music, rock band formed in Blackwood, Caerphilly, in 1986.
