Richard Annesley, 3rd Baron Altham
Richard Annesley, 3rd Baron Altham (1655 – 19 November 1701), styled The Honourable Richard Annesley between 1681 and 1700, was Dean of Exeter between 1681 and 1701. Richard Annesley was the son of Arthur Annesley, 1st Earl of Anglesey, and his wife Elizabeth. He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, graduating M.A. in 1670-1 and B.D. in 1677 (incorporated at Cambridge 1678). He became Prebendary of Westminster in 1679, and Prebendary and then Dean of Exeter in 1681. In 1689 he became Vicar of Colyton Rawleigh, Devon. William Wake (26 January 165724 January 1737) was a minister in the Church of England and Archbishop of Canterbury from 1716 to his death. Annesley is a village and civil parish in the Ashfield district of Nottinghamshire, England, between Hucknall and Kirkby-in-Ashfield. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 1,162 (including Annesley Woodhouse to the west), and this increased to 1,814 at the 2021 census. Annesley Hall is a grade two listed building, once owned by the Chaworth-Musters family, which has connections to the Byron family of nearby Newstead Abbey. Annesley Old Church was mentioned by Lord Byron and D. H. Lawrence. There is also close by the earthworks of Annesley Castle. Doctor George Cary (1611–1680), Sacrae Theologiae Professor, Professor of Sacred Theology, lord of the manor of Manor of Clovelly, Clovelly, Devon, was Dean of Exeter between 1663 and 1680 (amongst other duties responsible for the maintenance and decoration of Exeter Cathedral). Arthur Annesley, 1st Earl Of Anglesey
Arthur Annesley, 1st Earl of Anglesey, PC, (10 July 16146 April 1686) was an Anglo-Irish royalist statesman. After short periods as President of the Council of State and Treasurer of the Navy, he served as Lord Privy Seal between 1673 and 1682 for Charles II. He succeeded his father as 2nd Viscount Valentia in 1660, and he was created Earl of Anglesey in 1661. Early life Annesley was born in Dublin, Ireland, to Francis Annesley, 1st Viscount Valentia, and his first wife Dorothy, daughter of Sir John Philipps, Bt, of Picton Castle. He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, from which he graduated in 1634 as a Bachelor of Arts; that year, he was admitted into Lincoln's Inn. Having made the grand tour he returned to Ireland; and being employed by Parliament on a mission to the Duke of Ormonde, now reduced to the last extremities, he succeeded in concluding a treaty with him on 19 June 1647, thus securing the country from complete subjection to the rebels. Baron Altham
Baron Altham, of Altham in the County of Cork, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1681 for the Honourable Altham Annesley, younger son of Arthur Annesley, 1st Earl of Anglesey and Elizabeth Altham, daughter and co-heiress of Sir James Altham (see Viscount Valentia for earlier history of the Annesley family). The title was created with remainder to heirs male and in default thereof to his younger brothers and their male issue. In 1689 he was attainted by the Irish Parliament of James II and his estates were sequestered. However, after the deposition of James II he was restored and allowed to take his seat in the Irish House of Lords in 1695. He was succeeded by his son James, the second Baron, who died as an infant shortly after his father. Colaton Raleigh is a village and civil parish in East Devon, England. The parish is surrounded clockwise from the north by the parishes of Aylesbeare, Newton Poppleford and Harpford, Otterton, Bicton, Woodbury and a small part of Farringdon.
