Rice Advanced Materials Institute
The Rice Advanced Materials Institute (RAMI) is a campus-wide research institute at Rice University established in 2023. RAMI conducts research in materials science with applications in energy, sustainability, and national security. Its work includes experimental research and computational techniques, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, to study and develop materials. RAMI’s research areas include energy efficiency, energy storage, environmental sustainability, and materials for security-related applications. RAMI collaborates with campus leadership, the George R. Brown School of Engineering, the Wiess School of Natural Sciences, other research institutes, and the Shared Equipment Authority to support materials research at Rice University. Emilia Morosan
Emilia Morosan (also Moroșan, born 1976) is a Romanian-American condensed matter physicist whose research involves the synthesis of quantum materials, including quantum criticality and unconventional superconductors. She is also known for her discovery of super-strong titanium gold alloys. She is a professor at Rice University. Education and career Morosan was born in 1976 in Suceava, and studied physics at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași, Romania, earning a bachelor's degree in 1999. Ramamoorthy Ramesh (born 1960) is an American materials scientist of Indian descent who has contributed to the synthesis, assembly and understanding of complex functional oxides. Naomi J. Halas is the Stanley C. Moore Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and professor of biomedical engineering, chemistry, and physics at Rice University.
