Ricardo Sanchez
Ricardo Sanchez (born September 9, 1953) is a former lieutenant general in the United States Army. Early life and education Sánchez was born into a Mexican American family in Rio Grande City, Texas. He spent one year at the University of Texas at Austin on an ROTC scholarship, eventually transferring to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he graduated in 1973 with a double major in mathematics and history. Sánchez was named a Distinguished Military Graduate (DMG), meaning he was in the top 20% of all ROTC cadets in the nation. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army. Career Sánchez became a platoon leader in the 82nd Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. By 1977, he had transferred from the infantry to armor. He received promotions regularly and was stationed at posts in the United States, South Korea, Panama and Germany. Ricardo Sánchez (29 March 1941 – 3 September 1995) was a writer, poet, professor, and activist. Sometimes called the "grandfather of Chicano poetry," Sánchez gained national acclaim for his 1971 poetry collection ''Canto y Grito Mi Liberacion''. Incarcerated in his twenties for stealing money to feed his struggling family, Sánchez read extensively and even learned Hebrew while at Soledad Prison in California. Upon his release in 1969, his poems were included in a poetry anthology. In 1971, his first solo collection of poetry was published, establishing Sánchez as one of the nation's most important Chicano poets. Ricardo León Sánchez de Reinaldo (born July 3, 1958) is a Cuban-American journalist, radio host, and author. After working as the lead local anchor on Miami's WSVN, Sánchez moved to cable news, first as a daytime anchor at MSNBC, later at CNN, where he began as a correspondent and ultimately rose to become an anchor. On CNN, he hosted a show ''Rick's List'' and served as a contributor to ''Anderson Cooper 360°'' and CNN International, where he frequently reported and translated between English and Spanish. Sánchez was fired from CNN on October 1, 2010, following controversial remarks he made on a radio program. Ricardo Sánchez (born May 27, 1982) is a former Mexican footballer. Career Club Sánchez began his career in his native Mexico, playing for numerous Primera División A teams, including the reserve teams of Guadalajara and Atlas in his hometown of Guadalajara, as well as Irapuato, UAT and Querétaro. Sánchez came to the United States in 2007 to play for the USL First Division expansion franchise California Victory. When the Victory folded at the end of their first season he would sign with the Minnesota Thunder, the same team he scored an overtime goal against in the Open Cup earlier that season. In his first year with the Thunder Sánchez co-lead the team in goals, finishing with 10. He also accumulated four assists during the season. Ricardo "Ricky" Sánchez Rosa (born July 6, 1987) is a Puerto Rican professional basketball player who most recently played for Grises de Humacao of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). He was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers out of IMG Academies, IMG Academy with the 35th pick of the 2005 NBA draft, becoming the fourth Puerto Rican to be drafted by the National Basketball Association, and was immediately traded to the Denver Nuggets for their selection, Jarrett Jack.
