List Of Michelin Starred Restaurants In The Netherlands
The ''Michelin Guides'' have been published by the French tire company Michelin since 1900. They were designed as a guide to tell drivers about eateries they recommended to visit and to subtly sponsor their tires, by encouraging drivers to use their cars more and therefore need to replace the tires as they wore out. Over time, the stars that were given out started to become more valuable. Multiple anonymous Michelin inspectors visit the restaurants several times. The guide Gault Millau awarded the restaurant 13 out of 20 points. In 1993 and 2001, it was mentioned as brasserie, but later reverted to a fine dining restaurant. Fred Mustert was head chef from 1995 to 2007. Nicolas Belot, sous-chef under Mustert, took over that year. He retained the star for 2008, but then left unexpectedly. History The establishment was founded in 1932 as Bodega Old Dutch on the Coolsingel 103 and was owned by Toon and Wim Mannes. It was favoured by wealthy Rotterdammers. On 14 May 1940 Old Dutch was burnt down during the Rotterdam Blitz. On 29 December of the same year the Mannes brothers opened a new bodega and restaurant at the Rochussenstraat 20. In 1967 Old Dutch was one of the founding members of the Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise, represented by M.W. Mannes. The Mannes family remained owners of the restaurant until 1975. Joelia is a restaurant in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The restaurant received a Michelin star in 2016. The Dutch royal couple Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands celebrated their fifteenth wedding anniversary in Joelia. During the corona pandemic, the restaurant devised a way to welcome diners despite the new corona rules for restaurants and cafes. For a tenner extra, they were registered as hotel guests of the Hilton Hotel located above. Guests could enter the one-star restaurant through the hotel lobby. It caused many negative reactions. It was then decided to keep the restaurant's doors closed for the next four weeks anyway.
