René Klijn
René Klijn (The Hague, 8 September 1962 – The Hague 5 September 1993) was a Dutch singer and model. He became famous in 1992 for discussing the fact that he was an HIV/AIDS patient in a controversial, but critically awarded episode of Paul de Leeuw's talk show ''De Schreeuw van De Leeuw''. In his final life year he scored a number one hit with the song "Mr. Blue". Biography He was a member of the boyband Bam-to-Bam-Bam. In the early 1990s he was diagnosed with AIDS, which he revealed to viewers in an episode of ''De Schreeuw van de Leeuw'' starring host Paul de Leeuw, broadcast on 28 November 1992. The episode was controversial because De Leeuw took the liberty to crack jokes about Klijn's illness, but at the same time it took away a lot of taboos and tension. Klijn was in charge of how the episode was supposed to look and invited friends and family members to come and speak, but also his medics. At the end of the episode they sang a duet, "Mr. Blue", a cover of the band Yazoo ...

Paul De Leeuw
Paul Henri de Leeuw (born 26 March 1962) is a Dutch television comedian, singer and actor. De Leeuw gained national fame in the late eighties and early nineties with television shows for broadcasting company VARA. He often came into publicity with satire about Dutch show business personalities and taboo subject matter. His shows would often feature musical acts, many of which managed to gain national fame after they had been in De Leeuw's show (e.g. Twarres and René Klijn, a former boyband member who contracted HIV). VARA has since continued his shows apart from a few interruptions, often with considerable success. In the early nineties, De Leeuw also had some shows celebrating the new year. In the 1993–1994 show he satirized the new commercial television station RTL 5 by announcing another new station, "RTL 6" (''RTL six, beter dan niks'' it. RTL six, better than nothing. The song, written by Vince Clarke, was notably covered by Dutch singer René Klijn in 1993. Yazoo version Background "Mr Blue" was one of five tracks to be written by Clarke for ''You and Me Both''. It was recorded at Blackwing Studios in London and produced by Yazoo with Eric Radcliffe. Speaking to ''Melody Maker'' in 1983, Clarke commented, "''You and Me Both'' sprobably more serious than the last album. Alison's always written serious lyrics. I've had a bash at it. 'Mr Blue' is about an emotion called... Mr Blue, like a person." Critical reception In a review of ''You and Me Both'', Gavin Martin of ''New Musical Express'' described the song as a "shimmering", "beautifully crisp" and "evocative" song which "pinpoint the outcome of the last four years of harsh political strictures". He also noted the song's "genuinely heartbreaking melody ...
