Rensselaer is a village in Ralls County, Missouri, United States. The population was 253 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Hannibal Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Rensselaer was laid out in 1876. The community took its name from nearby Rensselaer Academy. A post office called Rensselaer was established in 1871, and remained in operation until 1953. Rensselaer is a city in Rensselaer County, New York, United States, and is located on the east side of the Hudson River, opposite Albany and on the western border of Rensselaer County. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 9,210. The area now known as the City of Rensselaer was settled by the Dutch in the 17th century, who called it t'Greyn Bos, which became Greenbush in English. Rensselaer Falls is a village located in St. Lawrence County, New York. As of the 2010 census, the village had a total population of 332. The current name came from mill owner Henry Van Rensselaer. The Village of Rensselaer Falls is in the western part of the Town of Canton and is due west of the Village of Canton. History A six-foot drop in the river attracted early settlers to the available water power. The community was first called "Tateville" and later "Canton Falls." Rensselaerswyck was a Dutch colonial patroonship and later an England, English Proprietary colony, manor owned by the Van Rensselaer (family), van Rensselaer family located in the present-day Capital District, New York, Capital District of New York (state), New York in the United States. Rensselaer Morse Lewis (November 9, 1820 – December 16, 1888) was an American merchant from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, who served a single one-year term in 1873 as a Liberal Reform Party member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Early life Lewis was born November 9, 1820, in Morrisville, New York, the son of Conway Lewis and Adelia (née Curtis) Lewis. He received an academic education and became a grain merchant and wholesaler. Career In 1853, he came to Wisconsin, settling in Fond du Lac. He was listed as a produce dealer in 1867. From 1867 to 1869 he served as postmaster of that city. He declared bankruptcy in 1868 and his home burned down in 1872. Rensselaer Russell Nelson (May 12, 1826 – October 15, 1904) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. He was the son of United States Supreme Court Justice Samuel Nelson. Education and career Born on May 12, 1826, in Cooperstown, New York, Nelson attended Hartwick Seminary, then graduated from Yale University in 1846 and read law with James R. Whiting of New York City in 1849. At Yale he was a member of Skull and Bones. He entered private practice in Buffalo, New York from 1849 to 1850. He continued private practice in Saint Paul, Minnesota Territory from 1850 to 1853, and from 1855 to 1857. He was county attorney of Douglas County, Wisconsin from 1853 to 1855.
