Evald Relander
Evald Kristian Relander (January 7, 1856 – October 9, 1926) was a Finnish teacher and banker who received the title of agricultural councillor (''maanviljelysneuvos''). His son was Lauri Kristian Relander, the second President of the Republic of Finland. Relander's parents were chaplain Erik Kristian Relander (1812–1877) and Maria Wilhelmina Wahlberg (1822–1904). Relander attended six grades of middle school in Joensuu, but then went to study at a business college in Turku. After graduating, he worked as an assistant teacher and accountant at an agricultural school in Kurkijoki. However, after studying in Mustiala, he graduated as an agronomist. After working as both a teacher and school principal in Kurkijoki, Relander moved to Elisenvaara in 1897 as a teacher and principal. Relander held, among other things, several positions of trust and organization, and he also served as the manager of the Elisenvaara branch of the Kansallis-Osake-Pankki from 1916. Hugo Relander
Hugo Relander (8 April 1865 – 27 March 1947) was a Finnish mathematician who served as the Minister of Finance for four terms from 1924 to 1936 with brief interruptions. Biography Relander was born in Viipuri on 8 April 1865. His parents were school principal Johan Richard Relander and Johanna Katarina Alopaeus. He obtained his doctorate degree in 1890. Relander worked at Tampere Reaalilyseo, a Swedish-speaking boys school, between 1889 and 1907. He first taught Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics at the school and then served as its principal. Relander was the chief mathematician at a life insurance company from 1908 to 1913. Then he served as the chairman of its supervisory board from 1921 to 1940. In addition, he was the head of the Industrial Workers in Finland Mutual Fire Protection Association in the period between 1913 and 1936 and headed Industrial Mortgage Bank of Finland between 1924 and 1926. Lauri Kristian Relander ( , ; 31 May 1883 – 9 February 1942) was the second president of Finland (1925–1931). A prominent member of the Agrarian League, he served as a member of Parliament, and as Speaker, before his election as President. Relander is widely regarded as the most unknown of Finland's presidents, as he has been considered a colorless and weak president who, during a domestic politically broken period, allowed himself to be guided without a clear line of his own. In foreign policy, the policy of isolation was continued during Relander's term, although on the other hand the president did valuable work in representing Finland abroad and establishing relations at the head of state level with neighboring states, such as the other Nordic countries.
