Rein Haljand
Rein Haljand (born 12 May 1945 in Tallinn) is an Estonian swimmer, sport personnel and sport pedagogue. In 1966 he graduated from Tallinn University, Tallinn Pedagogical Institute in physical education. 1962-1967 he become 6-times Estonian champion in different swimming disciplines. 1960-1968 he was a member of Estonian national swimming team and competed in backstroke and freestyle. 1989-2016 he was a member of Estonian Olympic Committee; 1997-2000 its general secretary, 2000-2001 its vice-president. 1992-1996 he was the president of Estonian Swimming Federation. Since 1966 he is teaching at Tallinn Pedagogical Institute. Awards * 2010: Order of the White Star, IV class. Tallinn () is the most populous and capital city of Estonia. Situated on a bay in north Estonia, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea, Tallinn has a population of 437,811 (as of 2022) and administratively lies in the Harju '' maakond'' (county). Estonian Olympic Committee
The Estonian Olympic Committee ( et, Eesti Olümpiakomitee) (EOK) is responsible for the Estonia's participation in the Olympic Games. History The Estonian Sports Federation ( et, Eesti Spordi Liit) decided to form the Estonian Olympic Committee in the First Estonian Sport Congress ( et, Eesti I Spordikongress) on 30 November 1919, one and a half years after the proclamation of the independence of Estonia, but it was officially founded on 8 December 1923. The first chairman of the committee dr. Karl Friedrich Akel, was elected on 5 May 1924. An independent Estonian team took part in the Olympic Games over the period of 1920–1936. Estonian Swimming Federation
Eesti Ujumisliit is the governing body of swimming in Estonia. It is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1922 under the name of "Eesti Kerge-, Raske- ja Veespordiliit" (EKRAVE Liit). It joined FINA in 1927 and LEN in 1929. In 1934, Eesti Veespordi Liit (Estonian Watersport Union) was founded. During the Soviet occupation, federation was closed and was re-founded in 1990 under the new name "Eesti Ujumisliit".
