The Regional Municipality of Durham (), informally referred to as Durham Region, is a regional municipality in Southern Ontario, Canada. Located east of Toronto and the Regional Municipality of York, it forms the east end of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and is part of the Golden Horseshoe region. It has an area of approximately . The regional government is headquartered in Whitby. The southern portion of Durham Region, on Lake Ontario, is primarily suburban in nature, forming the eastern end of the " 905 belt" of suburbs around Toronto, while the northern portion comprises rural areas and small towns. 2021 Canadian Census
The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canada, Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. Durham Regional Council is the political body for the Regional Municipality of Durham in Ontario, Canada. Created in 1974, it consists of 29 elected representatives, including the Regional Chair. Durham Region is governed by Durham Regional Council, which consists of the mayors of the local municipalities and regional councillors directly elected in each municipality. John G. Henry (born July 30, 1960) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was mayor of Oshawa from 2010 to 2018 and is currently chair of the Regional Municipality of Durham. Background Henry was born in Oshawa. The son of General Motors workers, he attended RS McLaughlin CVI High School. Henry is a graduate of Durham College, George Brown College and Panasonic's Corporate School. York County is a historic county in Upper Canada, Canada West, and the Canadian province of Ontario.
