Sex & Violins
''Sex & Violins ''(also known on later US releases as ''Cotton Eye Joe (Sex & Violins)'') is the debut studio album by Swedish Eurodance group Rednex, released on Jive Records in February 1995. Content Female vocals on the album are provided by Annika Ljungberg; due to a disagreement with the other band members, she left the band after the release of the album's fifth single, " Rolling Home", in 1996, to start a solo career. The album was a commercial success, including the hit dance single "Cotton Eye Joe". For its US release, the album was retitled ''Cotton Eye Joe (Sex & Violins)'' and received new cover art – presumably due to the possible offensive nature of the original artwork, which depicted a person urinating into a chamber pot with the band members' faces. Initially, the album cover was edited to leave out the golden shower but with the yellow liquid remaining. This would be substituted for wholly original artwork for a short time, which depicted a desert landscape ...

Composition When asked about the similarities between the band's first single "Cotton Eye Joe" and "Old Pop in an Oak", singer Annika Ljungberg (a.k.a. Mary Joe in Rednex) told in an 1995 interview, "The two melodies are completely different! The only thing that is similar is that techno beat but if you took that away and played it acoustically with violins and a banjo, then you can hear there's a very big difference. They are totally different songs, different stories. 'Cotton Eye Joe' was an old, trad song. But 'Old Pop in an Oak' is a ...

Wild 'N Free
"Wild 'N Free" is a country-dance song by the Swedish band Rednex, released as the fourth single from their debut album, ''Sex & Violins''. Its techno-country dance style is built around a re-recorded sample of "The Infernal Galop" from Act II, Scene 2 from Jacques Offenbach's ''Orpheus in the Underworld''. The song appeared in the 2006 Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies film ''Barnyard'' in the scene where the character Wild Mike dances. Critical reception James Hyman from British magazine ''Music Weeks ''RM'' Dance Update commented, "Someone had to give the can-can a stompin' Euro-novelty workout. At least Rednex have done it in style with interesting production and remixes that include the slower Nightcrawlers/ Robin-S sounding ones from Rhythm on the Loose." Another editor, James Hamilton described it as a "fiddles scraped and 'French Can Can' whistled corny Village People-ish pop chanter". Chuck Campbell from ''Scripps Howard News Service'' wrote that "Rednex pull thei ...

Eurodance
Eurodance (sometimes referred to as Euro-NRG) is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the late 1980s in Europe. It combines many elements of Hip-hop, rap, techno and Eurodisco. This genre of music is heavily influenced by the use of rich vocals, sometimes with Rapping, rapped verses. This, combined with cutting-edge synthesizers, strong Bass (sound), bass rhythm and melodic Hook (music), hooks, establishes the core foundation of Eurodance music. History Background Eurodance music originated in the late 1980s in central Europe, especially in Germany, where rave parties were becoming popular. By 1987, a German party scene was started, based on the well established Chicago house sound and Belgian new beat. The following year saw acid house making a significant impact on popular consciousness in Germany and central Europe as it had in England. In 1989, German DJs Westbam and Dr. Motte established the Ufo (Club, Berlin), Ufo Club, an illegal party venue, and co-founded ...
