Redlands ( ) is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the city had a population of 73,168, up from 68,747 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census. The city is located approximately northwest of Palm Springs, California, Palm Springs and east of Los Angeles. Redlands was founded in 1881 on land that encompassed native Serrano, Morongo and Cahuilla tribes. Redlands absorbed the communities of Terracina, Barton, Gladysta, and Lugonia along with portions of Mentone, California, Mentone, Crafton, California, Crafton and Bryn Mawr, California, Bryn Mawr when it incorporated in 1888. Redlands is home to the San Bernardino de Sena Estancia, Asistencia Mission founded in 1819 by early European settlers. Lincoln Memorial Shrine
The Lincoln Memorial Shrine in Redlands, California, is a memorial and research center dedicated to the memory of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States of America. It was opened on February 12, 1932, by local philanthropist Robert Watchorn as a monument to his deceased and only son, Emory Ewart Watchorn. The memorial is located at 125 West Vine Street behind the A. K. Smiley Public Library, adjacent to the Redlands Bowl and within Smiley Park Historic District. The Lincoln Memorial Shrine is open daily, except on Mondays and majors holidays, from 1 PM to 5 PM. As the largest memorial and research center dedicated to Abraham Lincoln on the West Coast of the United States, it possesses the largest Lincoln-related memorabilia collection in the region. Redlands Bowl
The Redlands Bowl is an amphitheatre in Redlands, California, USA, founded in 1924. It is used for music and theatrical performances which are offered to the public at no charge. The bowl is within Smiley Park Historic District that also includes, Smiley Park, the A.K. Smiley Public Library and the Lincoln Memorial Shrine. History In 1923, local resident Grace Stewart Mullen founded the Redlands Community Music Association and by 1924, she had organized the first season of music concerts at the local Smiley Park. A small band stand shell was located east of the current site, where the Lincoln Memorial Shrine stands now. As the music association gained success, Mullen was successful in collecting donations year round to make the music festival an annual event. She died in 1967. Smiley Park Historic District
The Smiley Park Historic District is a residential historic neighborhood in Redlands, California, United States. Adjacent immediately south of the downtown area. The neighborhood is centered on Smiley Park, which was named for benefactors Alfred and Albert Smiley and includes the A. K. Smiley Public Library, the Redlands Bowl and Lincoln Memorial Shrine. History Development in the district began in 1887 as much of Southern California grew rapidly due to the expanding citrus industry. Through the turn of the century, new residents mainly built Victorian homes, either in the form of larger Queen Anne designs or as smaller cottages. San Bernardino De Sena Estancia
The San Bernardino de Sena Estancia (also known as the San Bernardino Rancho or Asistencia) was a ranch outpost of Mission San Gabriel Arcángel in what is now Redlands, California, United States. It was built to graze cattle, and for Indian reductions of the Serrano people and Cahuilla people into Mission Indians. Over time, it fell into disrepair, until the early 20th century, when a new, larger structure was built as a museum. Bryn Mawr (pronounced from Welsh for "big hill"), formerly Nahant, Redlands Junction and West Redlands, is a formerly unincorporated community in San Bernardino County, California, United States, annexed mostly by the city of Loma Linda and a small portion by Redlands. As of 2000, its population numbered 213. History Originally named Nahant in the 1880s, the community was renamed Redlands Junction after a Southern Pacific Railroad depot was built in the town, accompanying the railroad through nearby San Timoteo Canyon. Crafton is an unincorporated community in San Bernardino County, California, United States, located east of Redlands, south of Mentone and west of Yucaipa, California. History Crafton was one of the first communities established in the San Bernardino Valley area. Lewis Cram and his brothers had been in the business of making chairs at ''San Bernardino de Sena Estancia'' (also known as Old San Bernardino), but around 1857, they decided to move upstream along the community aqueduct (called the ''zanja'', Spanish for ditch) in order to gain more milling power from the water flow. Mentone is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 7,803 at the 2000 census and 8,720 at the 2010 census. It is located at .
