Rede 21 (also known as Canal 21) is a Brazilian open commercial television network based in the city of São Paulo. It is owned by the Grupo Bandeirantes de Comunicação. Rise and decline With a UHF signal concession obtained by the Bandeirantes Communication Group in 1989, Rede 21 went on air on October 21, 1996, initially broadcasting only to Greater São Paulo. it was called Canal 21 São Paulo or just Canal 21, having specialized programming only for the capital of São Paulo and operated from 12 pm to midnight. The network had presence in 14 cities in 2004, but in this time of the year lost affiliates in Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Vitória, Brazil, Vitória and Rio de Janeiro.
