Recep Şentürk
Recep Şentürk (born 1964, Çankırı, Turkey), is a Turkish academic and sociologist of religion. He was the rector and founding president of Ibn Haldun University from 2017-2021, and is currently the dean of the college of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar. He is a strong advocate of non-western sociological theories such as those by the Muslim sociologist Ibn Khaldun. Early life and education He was born at Çankırı in 1964. He completed his bachelor's degree from the Islamic Studies department of Marmara University. In 1988, he completed his postgraduate studies from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts of Istanbul Üniversity. He became an assistant at the same department after his postgraduate studies. In 1998, he obtained his doctorate from Columbia University in New York, US. Ibn Haldun University
Ibn Haldun University () or abbreviated as IHU, is a private foundation university located in Başakşehir, Istanbul. The university has a strong focus on the humanities and social sciences, and espouses a multilingual approach to education, namely in Turkish, English and Arabic. History IHU was established by the Turkish Youth and Education Service Foundation, set up by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 1996 when he was Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Ibn Khaldun
Ibn Khaldun (27 May 1332 – 17 March 1406, 732–808 Hijri year, AH) was an Arabs, Arab Islamic scholar, historian, philosopher and sociologist. He is widely acknowledged to be one of the greatest social scientists of the Middle Ages, and considered by a number of scholars to be a major forerunner of historiography, sociology, economics, and demography studies. His best-known book, the ''Muqaddimah'' or ''Prolegomena'' ("Introduction"), which he wrote in six months as he states in his autobiography, influenced 17th-century and 19th-century Ottoman historians such as Kâtip Çelebi, Mustafa Naima and Ahmed Cevdet Pasha, who used its theories to analyze the growth and decline of the Ottoman Empire.
