Reason Party (Australia)
Reason Australia, commonly referred to as the Reason Party or as simply Reason, was an List of political parties in Australia, Australian political party. Its leader, Fiona Patten, described the party as a "civil libertarian alternative". Patten was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council as at the 2018 Victorian state election, 2018 state election in the Northern Metropolitan Region, after formerly being elected as a Sex Party member for the same seat in 2014 Victorian state election, 2014. However, she lost re-election in 2022 Victorian state election, 2022. Reason was registered at the state level in Victoria and New South Wales, as well as with the Australian Electoral Commission at the federal level. The party was disbanded in March 2024. Patten subsequently joined Legalise Cannabis Australia. Fiona Heather Patten (born May 1964) is an Australian politician. She was the leader of Reason Australia (also known as the Reason Party) and was a member of the Victorian Legislative Council between 2014 and 2022, representing the Northern Metropolitan Region, until she lost her seat at the 2022 Victorian state election, 2022 state election. Patten established the Australian Sex Party in 2009 to focus on personal freedoms after deep frustration with stagnation on censorship, freedom, marriage equality and Drug policy reform, drug law reform. On 22 August 2017, it was announced that the Australian Sex Party would be changing its name to the Reason Party. Before entering politics, Patten was the CEO of Australia's national adult industry association, Eros Association. Assisted suicide, sometimes restricted to the context of physician-assisted suicide (PAS), is the process by which a person, with the help of others, takes actions to end their life. Catherine Jane Caro (born 24 June 1957) is a feminist social commentator, writer and lecturer based in Australia. Early life and education Caro was born in London in 1957 and emigrated to Australia with her parents as a five-year-old in 1963.
