Raúl Lara
Raúl Rodrigo Lara Tovar (born 28 February 1973) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as a midfielder and manager. He is the current assistant manager of Liga MX club América. Career Lara was a member of the Mexico national team at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, playing three games at the tournament. He participated also at 1996 Summer Olympics. Famous for two mistakes that caused Mexico's elimination against Germany in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Liga MX, also known as Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Mexico and the highest level of the Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Liga Mayor (1943–1949) and also as Primera División de México (1949–2012), it has 18 participating clubs, with each season divided into two short tournaments, ''Apertura'' from July to December and ''Clausura'' from January to May. 1996 CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Tournament
The 1996 CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Tournament was the ninth edition of the CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Tournament, the quadrennial, international, age-restricted association football tournament organized by CONCACAF to determine which men's under-23 national teams from the North, Central America and Caribbean region qualify for the Olympic football tournament. It was held in Canada, from 10 and 19 May 1996. It was the first time in which teams that qualified for the Olympics were permitted to supplement their rosters with three players not restricted by age in its 18-man final list. Mexico, as winners qualified for the 1996 Summer Olympics together with the United States who automatically qualified as hosts. CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship
The CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship was an association football competition organized by CONCACAF as its continental qualifying tournament for the men's olympic teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean, to determine the qualified teams for the Olympic football tournament. The olympic teams were represented by amateur players (1964–1988) and later by under-23 players since 1992. The tournament was held from 1964 to 2020. On 16 September 2021, CONCACAF announced that the representatives at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games will qualify through the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. Football At The Pan American Games
Football at the Pan American Games is an association football competition organized by Panam Sports in the continental multi-sport event of the Pan American Games. The men's tournament has been played since 1951, it has restricted the participation of elite players in various ways. The women's tournament has been played since 1999, it is for senior national teams. The tournament was played in a league format from 1951 to 1963, neither the final nor bronze medal match was hosted. Another format was used in 1971, this time the tournament was played in a group format in the early stages, but played in a league format for the final stages. The 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup was the third edition of the Gold Cup, the soccer championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF). The tournament returned to the United States and California; the games were hosted by Los Angeles, San Diego, and Anaheim. The format of the tournament changed from 1993: it was expanded to nine teams, separated into three groups of three and played in January as opposed to the 1993 edition which was played in July. The 1999 Copa América was a football tournament held in Paraguay, from 29 June to 18 July. It was organized by CONMEBOL, South America's football governing body. In order to bring the number of competing teams to twelve, CONMEBOL invited CONCACAF's Mexico, accepting their fourth invitation, and AFC's Japan, who made their debut at the tournament. The 1997 Copa America was the 38th edition of the Copa America. It was held in Bolivia from 11 to 29 June. It was organized by CONMEBOL, South America's football governing body. The 1992 CONCACAF Champions' Cup, also known as the American Airlines Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 28th edition of the annual international club football competition held in the CONCACAF region (North America, Central America and the Caribbean), the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. It determined that year's club champion of football in the CONCACAF region and was played from 1 February 1992 until 5 January 1993. The teams were split in 2 zones (North/Central and Caribbean), each one qualifying two teams to the final tournament. All qualifying matches were played under the home/away match system, while the final was played in California. Both zones were also split into 2 groups, so one team of each qualified to the finals. The CONCACAF Champions Cup, formerly known as CONCACAF Champions League (2008–2023), is an international association football competition organized by CONCACAF as its top continental tournament for clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. The champions automatically qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. The tournament currently uses a knockout format; it had a group stage prior to the 2018 edition.
