Ray Township is one of thirteen townships in Franklin County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 4,021. History Ray Township is named for James B. Ray, fourth Governor of Indiana. The Oldenburg Historic District and Stockheughter Covered Bridge are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A township in some states of the United States is a small geographic area. The term is used in three ways. #A survey township is simply a geographic reference used to define property location for deeds and grants as surveyed and platted by the General Land Office (GLO). A survey township is nominally six by six miles square, or 23,040 acres. #A civil township is a unit of local government, generally a civil division of a county. Counties are the primary divisional entities in many states, thus the powers and organization of townships varies from state to state. Batesville, Indiana
Batesville is a city in Franklin and Ripley counties in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 6,520 at the 2010 census, making it the largest community in both counties but is not the county seat of either. The Batesville Casket Company is headquartered here. Medical technology company Hillrom has a substantial presence in the town, employing over 1,700 people at its office, innovation and manufacturing campus. Batesville is noted for its central location between Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Louisville. History Central Batesville Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. Beginning Batesville was founded by George H. Dunn, owner of the John Callahan Trust Company. The company bought land and created new towns along rail lines that it began since Dunn was president of the Cincinnati and Indianapolis Railroad. Indiana State Road 229
State Road 229 (SR 229) is a State Road in the south-eastern section of the state of Indiana. Running for about in a general north-south direction, connecting rural portions of Ripley and Franklin counties. SR 229 was originally introduced in the early 1930 routed between Batesville and U.S. Route 52 (US 52) as part of SR 1. That section SR 1 became SR 229 a year later. In the late 1960s the road was paved. Route description The southern terminus of SR 229 is in downtown Napoleon, at the corner of Madison Street (US 421) and Main Street. SR 229 leads east from the intersection before turning southeast to head out of town. The road turns north-northeast at an T-intersection with the western end of SR 48. The highway heads towards Batesville as a rural curvy two-lane highway, passing through a mix of farmland and woodland. State Road 46 in the U.S. state of Indiana is an east–west state highway in the southern half of Indiana. Route description The western terminus of SR 46 is at I-70 east of Terre Haute at an interchange before becoming a heavily traveled modernized 2-lane highway through Spencer where it intersects SR 67 and US 231. It then proceeds to Ellettsville where it becomes a 4-lane expressway until an Interchange with I-69. It then goes directly through the college town of Bloomington. It multiplexes with SR 45 on a road known as "The Bypass" just north of Indiana University where it passes by the athletic complex. It then goes by the College Mall in Bloomington where it makes a left turn and winds towards the artist colony of Nashville passing by SR 446 and Lake Monroe.
