Rapel is a Chilean settlement located an hour away from Melipilla in the commune of Navidad on the O'Higgins Region. During the summer, becomes a balneary. This settlement is near of the Lake Rapel and the Rapel River. In the homonym river was installed the Rapel Dam. The main economic activities in the zone are agriculture, commerce and services. Navidad, Chile
Navidad () is one of the six communes in Cardenal Caro Province, O'Higgins Region, Chile. It borders the commune of Santo Domingo (Valparaíso Region) and San Pedro (Santiago Metropolitan Region) in the north, the commune of Litueche to the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The commune has approximately 20 kilometres of coastline. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the Chilean National Statistics Institute, Navidad spans an area of and has 5,422 inhabitants (2,878 men and 2,544 women). Of these, 712 (13.1%) lived in urban areas and 4,710 (86.9%) in rural areas. The population fell by only 1 person between the 1992 and 2002 censuses. O'Higgins Region
The Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region (, ), often shortened to O'Higgins Region (), is one of Chile's 16 first order administrative divisions. It is subdivided into three provinces. It is named in honour of Bernardo O'Higgins Riquelme, one of Chile's founding fathers. Rapel River is a List of rivers in Chile, river of Chile located in the O'Higgins Region. The Rapel Dam is an arch dam on the Rapel River about north of La Estrella, Chile, La Estrella in the Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region, Chile. The primary purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power generation and it supports a 377 MW power station. The dam was completed in 1968 and is owned by Endesa (Chile), Endesa.
