Ransome & Marles Bearing Company Limited was a British company which made ball bearings and roller bearings. It was founded during the First World War to make bearings for aircraft and other engines. Before the war most bearings had been imported, chiefly from Germany. The business is now part of NSK UK, but Ransome & Marles' former plant, Stanley Works, remains in operation on Northern Road, Newark in Nottinghamshire. Ransomes & Rapier was a major United Kingdom, British manufacturer of railway equipment and later cranes, from 1869 to 1987. Originally an offshoot of the major engineering company Ransomes, Sims & Jeffries, Ransome's it was based at Waterside Works in Ipswich, Suffolk. Ransome's split Ransomes & Rapier was formed in 1869 when four engineers, James Allen Ransome (1806–1875), his elder son, Robert James Ransome (c.1831–1891), Richard Christopher Rapier (1836–1897) and Arthur Alec Bennett (1842–1916), left the parent firm by agreement to establish a new firm on a site on the River Orwell to continue the business of manufacturing railway equipment and other heavy works. The year before J. A. Ransome's younger son, Allen Ransome (1833–1913), founded the saw-milling machinery business, A. Ransome & Co, in Chelsea London with a foundry in Battersea. Ransomes And Reavell Sports Club Ground
Ransomes Sports Pavilion (formerly Ransomes and Reavell Sports Club Ground) is a cricket ground in Ipswich, Suffolk. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1972, Suffolk played Hertfordshire in the ground's first Minor Counties Championship match. Since then, the ground has hosted 48 Minor Counties Championship matches, including the rain-affected 2005 final between Suffolk and Cheshire in 2005, which was drawn. and 2 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches. The ground has also hosted a single List-A match which saw Minor Counties East play Middlesex in the 1978 Benson and Hedges Cup. Ransomes Industrial Estate, also known as Ransomes Europark, is a combined retail and business park located in Priory Heath Ward, Ipswich, on the southeastern edge of Ipswich, Suffolk, UK. Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies Limited was a major United Kingdom, British agricultural machinery maker also producing a wide range of general engineering products in Ipswich, Suffolk including traction engines, trolleybuses, ploughs, lawn mowers, combine harvesters and other tillage, tilling equipment. Ransomes also manufactured Direct Current electric motors in a wide range of sizes, and electric forklift trucks and tractors. They manufactured aeroplanes during the First World War. Their base, specially set up in 1845, was named Orwell Works. Ransomes' railway equipment business was hived off in 1869 with a different ownership as Ransomes & Rapier and based nearby at Waterside Ironworks.
