Héctor Velázquez Moreno (born Mexico City, 1922probably 1923 – died 2006) was a Mexican architect. Biography Velázquez studied at the Faculty of Architecture (UNAM), Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) after 1949, and afterwards at Harvard University and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Due to a scholarship he was enabled to visit also the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. The School of Architecture at UNAM is one of the leading schools of architecture and design in Mexico. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate studies in architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism and industrial design. History The school is one of the follow-up institutions of the former Academia de San Carlos, the other one being the School of Arts and Design. The Academia de San Carlos offered studies in architecture since 1791, under control of the Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico. In 1910, Porfirio Diaz's government grants autonomy to the university, thus the academy was reorganized as the (National School of Architecture) and the (National School of Art). Pasaje Jacaranda, officially ''Plaza Comercial Plaza Jacaranda'', designed by architects Ramón Torres Martínez and Héctor Velázquez Moreno, was an open-air shopping center opened in 1959 in the Zona Rosa, Mexico City, at the time considered the hippest and most cosmopolitan district of the city. Zona Rosa ('Pink Zone') is an area in Mexico City which is known for its shopping, nightlife, LGBT in Mexico, LGBT community, and its recently established Koreans in Mexico, Korean community.
